This is the first episode of season twelve I've slightly looked forward to, and actually enjoyed. It reminded me more of old-school ER.

More of Kerry was good, Luby was good, and Pratt with those kids was good as well.

Is Abby pregnant just because ER hasn't had a pregnancy storyline in awhile, or because Maura is pregnant? (I'm not saying Maura is pregnant, just wondering if she is).

I cannot stand that new Alex, I could barely deal with old Alex and new Alex is 10x worse.

As for the Morris/Haleh thing, good singers, but...predictable? Seeing as Scott Grimes is an actual recording artist (call me a loser but I think his songs are actually, good, I mean I have heard wayy worse), and Yvette Freeman has a cd out to.

Hopefully more of season twelve will be like this, just chilled out. We don't need the major major drama to make a good ER episode.

Well, to fall in line with everyone else....this episode ROCKED!! I LOVED IT!!! I laughed like a hyena the entire hour!! First:

a) YEEAAAHHHH Kerry!!! Anytime Kerry's on screen it makes me a happy girl! She looked very cute and did a wonderful job with the little girl. Glad she mentioned Henry too, but it would've been nice to see her at the Xmas party too! Funny Kerry line: She's a b*tch but unfortunately she's right (to Pratt about the new surgeon)

I was wondering if I'd missed the party scene or something, like I blinked and it was over. Apparently the spoilers were wrong about it... Hmm, maybe it'll be in the deleted scenes section if they ever get to this season for the DVDs?

excellent episode! Enjoyed it very much. Especially when Eve punched :med: that pain in the tooshie patient. That was great. It was nice to see Luka with a positive attitude again. It's been a while since we saw that kind of joy in him. I think it is kinda cool that they are putting Weaver in a little bit more again. I thought it was very humorous about what Frank said about the last time he got a gift was when a helicopter crushed Romano... LOL

All around good episode.

I read the first three pages of posts about this eppy. And I had to smile that every single person who talked about Scott Grimes (Morris) and Yvette Freeman (Haleh) all felt like I did. I just could barely tell their voices apart. It was kind of strange. The only way you knew for sure who was singing was when the camera was on them. Yvette has a wonderful voice so it's no insult to Scott to compare him with her. He is obviously a tenor but really tenor - too high. Maybe it's the music. Christmas music just doesn't sound like any other genre of music (to me anyway). I'd like to hear each of them sing a different kind of music separately at a different occasion-like a Luby wedding  (I know, I know - fat chance!)

The Luby storyline continues to be wonderful, and Maura and Goran's acting has been so excellent and believable. I loved the affectionate teasing about Christmas and the ending scene. That was so well acted. Abby was starting to fidget, and act nervous and upset at the party when she asked Luka to go outside to talk to her. You could see the emotion of dread on Luka's face. IMHO, I was sure Luka was thinking that she wanted to "just be friends" again or worse, break up. When Abby simply said, "I'm pregnant", Luka just looked like he was in complete shock! :dizzy: That was the last thing he expected to hear, I'm sure. :lmao: Luby 2 has been such a wonderful change from Luby 1. It's pure joy seeing Luka smiling and laughing so much - and Abby too!

I also agree with other posters that Eve came in "with a bang" and left "with a bang". Even though she didn't have a long contract with the show, Kristen Johnston did a terrific job acting the erratic Eve. I know I will remember her character for a long time. Eve did have some good influence on Sam.

I feel sorry for Sam. She wants a complete split with her ex but Alex keeps dragging her back to Steve. Alex must not be a very bright kid, finding out his Dad is a scumbag and still adoring him. Of course, I don't like this new Alex anyway. His acting doesn't seem natural.

This eppy was a very nice blend of drama, happiness and humor - just like the old ER Christmases used to be. It's great that the writers and TPTB are finally really working hard to bring ER back to life. About two years ago, I would have been surprised to see ER last beyond Season 11. Now here we are in Season 12 and the show seems almost re-invented! Way to go! Keep it up!

Does anyone know when the next ER is scheduled to be shown?

I'm back to my original favorite character, Susan Lewis. Sherry, I enjoyed your acting and character so much (not just because your character and I had the same name). I loved your wit and you brightened the screen. I felt you were cheated out of a decent exit arc, when all it consisted of was a "one liner" announcement from Kerry. You deserved more...

Nice episode although it had a lot of flashback generation in it. Consider:

the cancer patient who had to be home with here children: previous season, the oriental woman with the many, many family over.

a young child who gets shot, accidently, on Christmas eve: previous season, the mother who accidently shoots her child that she thought was a housebreaker.

Eve punches out a patient and gets fired; Sam punches out a patient in Impulse Control and doesn't get fired.

Not to mention that helicopter.

And then there is the law of averages. Think about it for a moment. Luka boinks like mad and yet, after all these years, pregnancy has never come up. Sounds like he is very safe sex and yet, now a hit. Average wise, the odds were bound to catch up with him. But profiling wise, it doesn't fit. The only place it does fit is realizing that it is a teleplay story, things are changed in the world to add new situations. It is the "Hit Alpha" in the war game/damage control problem. That despite the perfect weapons response by the CIC team, something still just gets thru.

Now, we can say, that obviously, this time it wasn't safe sex. But if we say that, then we have to consider the motives of the people involved and the odds with such motives. Ie, motives: Luka wanted to get Abby pregnant or Abby wanted to get pregnant but since it was a surprise, both sides weren't consenting. Or maybe for some reason, protection wasn't used ......... but if there was a reason now, then there was probably reasons before, so we come to the point, why now, why didn't it happen before?

Finally, with Luka's superhuman ego, while we might say that it could be that nothing can harm Luka, it seems more reasonable, since he has been in Africa, has had brushes with death, that the propelling image is Luka must always be strong so insurance must be taken so Luka is not harmed.

Nice episode, heck of an ice breaker ............ but take it out of the impact and it becomes questionable.

strawbewwiez I loove your icon did you make it?

But amazing eppisode. Luby leaves me speechless.

The "I haven't gotten a present in this hospital since that helicopter fell on Romano." that made me laugh so hard. And I was kinda shocked they even brought it up. There was a lot of continuation in this eppy.

When abby said "Have you had amnesia or something since the last time we dated."
That was really cute too.

And ugh Janurary 5! I don't know if I can make it. They do this every season though. Is it the same time when the actors take a holiday break or what?

Aurora, glad to hear from you here again! I always love your insights! But I think you forgot the kleptomaniac girlfriend, Nicole, who Abby advised NOT to tell Luka she was pregnant if she wasnt serious about having a child. And she DID have an abortion & disappeared after she moved out of Luka's. So he just didn't know he'd 'hit the bullseye" (to follow your metaphor sort of) :P

Yes, but that is wasn't safe sex is kind of a "DUH"...although protective devices have been known to fail...even the most effective! I knew a couple who 'got pregnant' after he had a vasectomy (it WAS his child too)....because he had a 3rd duct (an anatomical anomoly) & was producing only an average of 6-10 sperm per time (compared to the 100's of thousands normally)......SOOOO one never knows. Plus personally every female in my family (including my mother) have gotten pregnant during our periods....soooo there you go! :omg: SURPRIZE!

But back to Abby & LUka.....he may have assumed she was still using protection of some sort like she did in LUBY 1, because the she was definately against procreation.......so maybe she did stop using anything , especially since after Jake & before Luka now she wasn't 'getting any' anyway.....or maybe she had just recently gotten off the pill.....sooo only TPTB know the 'backstory' on that. Or deliberately left it ambiguous so we'd all have something to talk about!
--But this also may have been a bit a 'flashback"--->remember the ever-popular Carter & Kem pregnancy scene in Africa last season? And how happy Carter was compared to Kem's fears for their relationship? Besides we KNOW that Luka has ALWAYS wanted a family after losing his first one in Croatia....so now he just has to curb his enthusiasm to allow Abby to make the choice & get over her fears too. Which after her experience with her recent patient I'm assuming TPTB will allow her too!

ITA---but then we'll have all these Holiday things to do & watch on TV right? PLus they always do this so they can save the epis for the Feb & May Sweeps too.....We'll get likely only the one new epi , then a few repeats, then all the football/Superbowl stuff.....THEN finally February.....then nothing but Basketball in March, ,,,etc....& on it goes until May sweeps & the finale. Such goes the seasons on TV in the US...& yes, the cast members are taking a break (or working on other projects during this time.....wouldn't you? ) But if worse comes to worse, check out the spoilers & put your mind at rest. ;)

"Luka's super human ego" - What? I have no idea what that means.

Come on, this is not about safe sex it's about a plot device. Where's the point in applying that kind of logic to it? And think about it, how likely is Abby to make an actual choice to go out and get pregnant? The writers want her pregnant and IMO an accident is the only way shed find herself in that position.

In the end I don't care much. I dont remember the last time this show showed me two people twinkle at each other like this or look so totally into each other. I know they were trying to do it with Kem and Carter but they went overboard with it and I felt a little nauseated. This is hot and God knows I love me some brooding Luka but happy smiling loved up Luka is totally blowing me away right now.

I agree....what super human ego? Now if we were talking Morris, I'd have to totally agree.....although he is the epitome of the "Delusion of Adequacy" (just a pun dear poster! ;) )

OK so safe sex isn't necessarily the most important point....You're right....it IS the introduction of dramatic personal crisis in the relationship that the writers were going to include no matter what. And I too LOVE the obvious 'chemisty' of the 2 of them too.

I thought it was a great episode!! This season is really rocking!!

I was just wondering though.. is Maura Tierney really pregnant in real life or are they just making Abby pregnant.. ? Cause if Maura was pregnant i think that would be totally awesome for her!!!

A sympathetic epi! ;)

I like Luka/Abby scenes! ^_^ I hope they will have a familly together...like Greene/Corday but with a happiest ending :P

How do you call Abby's gift to Luka in english???
Luka's gift was a great idea... ^_^

I really like the audition...Abby, Ray and Chuny were funny...
It was really weird to hear Morris voice...it was playback i suppose!! :P

Sam's storyline ...i don't like the new actors for his son and ex husband...and this storyline is beginning to irritates me... <_< i hope in the future Sam will have a best storyline! ;)

Abby's gift is called a SNOW GLOBE ......they put any scenery or person's picture inside , usually in 3D & cover it with glass (or the cheap ones are plastic) filled with water & glitter or plastic flakes to look like snow falling when you shake it. But I could not make out what was inside the one she bought.......could you? Anyone? It obviously was a last minute gift from the hospital giftshop....but they still can be nice.
And YES, I thought Luka's gift was very thoughtful.
