See that's the problem for me and always was. There was no seeeex in the air between Carter and Abby and it just about crackles with Luka. The end of the last epi was HOT. There was never a scene like that written for carby and the passion of that kiss in the car beats anything between Carter and Abby hands down. When Carter and Abby were in the shower the only steam came from the hot water. I think being friends is a very fine thing but you gotta have the heat too and Luka seems to be the one who just, I dunno, turns the gal on. Hell he turns me on so if she changes her mind ... I'll just get to the back of the line. Plus of course he is a guy you can absolutely trust to be there. I guess when he tells Abby "I'm not going anywhre" she might be thinking "Heard that before" but he hung on way past when he should have let go in Luby I and he even tried to get Sam to reconsider so whatever else he is he's a guy who doesn't bail. One reason I think he's good for Abby is that he's been a dad and she has such parent issues and so did Carter. He also was happily married and knows what a good relationship is about and I don't think either Carter or Abby have ever seen one close up. Now that Luka has made up his mind that he doesnt want to just be the guy whose family got killed I think theres a lot there for Abby to lean on and learn from. Oh and the sex of course.

I think that's the opposite. Luby was a cold relationship. And when did you see those romantic Carby scenes, like when she sang Afternoon Delight and the roof proposal. Luka never proposed to Abby and she wasn't happy as she was with John. Luka never took Abby to dance outside in November and he didn't travel with her to Oklahoma. He didn't take her to a charity date (And yes, he could support good causes too). And so for you know, Luka said once on The Longer you stay: "Carter can have you!" |
|
John: I want you to stop being so afraid. I want us to stop being so careful. I wanna marry you! Abby: What? John: I wanna marry you Abby: Oh, you're proposing? John: Yeah! Abby: You're crazy! John: Well then I'll fit right in! ![]() ![]() Carby Forever Cuz here we can love Carby | |

I missed out on Luby I, I only saw the end of it and of course the end wasn't too happy for neither. Since Carter and Abby were my favorite characters, I wanted them to end up together. I thought that their friendship was very cute
and I had very high expectations until their romance took off, it all went downhill since. Even when they were "happy" together, I never saw much chemistry :bah:. Carter has never been too romantic IMO, not with Abby, nor with anyone else. He's just this cute doctor whom I loved very much at the beginning of the show but whom annoyed me the further the show progressed. The Carter I knew and loved was gone and the new Carter (with baggage) was not as likable. The thing I hated most about Carby was how it ended :broken:. It's probably the worse relationship ending I've seen on TV. Whether Abby was wrong or not, dumping someone from afar with a letter was the lamest thing to do and when Carter came back from Africa, it was as if nothing had ever happened between the two, like if there was no history between them. I kept waiting for a good long conversation between the two of them to finally end the relationship once and for all but that never came. All we got was "You're OK? You're fine? Want to take a coffee with us (with Kem)?" WTF?!
Everything about them at the end was out of nowhere. At least with Luby, there was an end and some regret (Luka telling Abby he missed her). Now with Luby II, it's been awsome. I find the two very hot and with Luka, there's some heat which was lacking with Carter. At the very least, Abby seems to have better sex with Luka :P. |

I don't even know why this conversation is happening. Carby is blue dead and Luby II is in full swing. And yes they're hot and sweet and charming and Abby says she hasn't laughed this much or felt this good in a really, really long time and she's not talking months here, she's talking years I think. Thing is a lot of those thngs Carter and her did they did while she was dating Luka and I find it hard to like that. The Afternoon delight thing was cringemakingly awful, sexless, and I never saw a single hot scene written for them which makes me think the writes weren't selling this as a romance but as a friendship with some tame sex thrown in, no passion. Whatever else Luka and Abby didn't have they seemed to have that and the writers are making damn sure we know they have it this time round. When did Abby ever smile and blush and giggle with Carter? She's hot for Luka like she never was for Carter who I think she thought was pretty safe. Look at their first kiss and compare it to Luka and Abbys and to the scene in the car a couple epis ago. Man, theres no comparison. FTR Luka didn't go to OK with Abby because she'd already arranged to go with Carter. Luka said "We can fly down there once she's hospitalized" but then he never got the cahnce. Carter wasn't supporting a good cause he was carrying out a family obligation. Abby wasn't even his first choice as a date and Abby said yes before she even asked Luka. Luby had real pproblems the first go round but come on they weren't all down to Luka not by a long shot. Anyhow, Luby II - game on, baby on the way, done deal. |

It's true that the best moment Abby and Carter had together were while Abby was still dating Luka. They were great as friends and there was chemistry there. As a couple though, there was no passion at all, their relationship was almost as sparkless as Carsan. Carter was cute when he had a crush on Susan but we all saw what happened when they were couple. I too think that Abby went with Carter because he was safer. She went more with her head than with her feelings. For the first time in years, I can't wait to see the next episode of ER. Luby II is making me so excited and anctious. I can't wait to see the pregnancy and I'm hoping TPTB won't add too much drama into it. The two have had enough drama already. It's time for some happiness. |

I don't mean to offend anyone who still loves Carby... because Carby was really hot and passionate right at the beginning of the relationship, back at the end of season 8 and about halfway through season 9... but I agree... Carter never tried to make Abby feel all that special, sure he told her he loved her once in a while and took her to dances and whatever but he never just flirted or tickled her or gave her little suprises not expecting anything in return. I mean Luka takes the time to show her he cares at those random moments, like when he came up behind her and tickled her/startled her and just made her feel special. And personally I think that has to be part of the relationship if you want the chemestry to stay alive. I think that is partially why both Luby I and Carby ended, is because they just kinda let the relationship fade, without adding those little things that keep it alive. |

   Oh, and what did Abby ever do for Carter? She doesn't deserve to have everyone make her feel "special" as if she's some fair innocent princess when she does nothing in return for them. Let me refresh your memory about what Carter did for her. He put up with her skanky ass and her loopy family, accompanied her to Oklahoma to help her with Maggie and paid all the bills, worked all day and drove through a snowstorm at night to be there for her in Nebraska where her idiot brother was, got her through med school by anonymously paying her school fees and ruined his vacation and returned to Chicago from Belize to help her some more. That's just at the top of my head. What did she do for Carter? Hmm. Let's see. She strung him and Luka along in a triangle and treated them both like garbage. She expected Carter to cater to her and her family's needs at all times while subverting his own. Not only did she do nothing for him, she also forged his signature on a chart and could have put his entire medical career in jeopardy. When his grandmother died, she couldn't have cared less. She basically shrugged off his pain, got him to write her a prescription, and then gave his clothes to Eric! She couldn't even be bothered to hug him and hold him for a few minutes. As if that wasn't bad enough, she and her drunk brother ruined the funeral and caused a scene bringing enormous shame and embarrassment for Carter and his family. Not for one minute could she step into Carter's shoes and see why he wanted to get away from her and all her issues by fleeing to a war zone for two weeks. Instead, she had a childish fit and acted like a 14 year old instead of the nearly 40 year old she really is. When he returned with an apology, she got even more trashier than she usually she and lit up a cigarette and then made their argument public by bringing his clothes to the ER and hanging them up on his locker for everyone to see. It's no wonder that he left her behind for good and didn't come back for many months. Nothing says "GO AWAY. I DON'T WANT YOU." than a dump letter and staying in a war zone for seven months, falling in love with another woman, having a child with her, wanting to marry her, buying a house with her, building a huge center in tribute to this woman's life's work and naming it after their child, and finally moving away to another continent to be with her. Carter realized he deserved better than Abby and found everything he was looking for. You can continue to debate whether Luka is treating her "special" and whether or not she should stay with him or not. But Carter is not even part of the equation. She doesn't have a choice between the two men because one of them definitely does not want her. I don't even see the point of this thread considering the big important fact that Carter is in love with another woman and left everything to be with her and never even looked back. |

Although I don't see Abby as the ultimate bitch as you do, I do agree that Carter is out of the equation and people should have realized that long ago, they're just not meant to be together. It doesn't matter who's right or wrong, both personalities don't match. Abby shouldn't be considered special, she just needs someone that will complement her personality and I think Luka is a good match. Both have their flaws but with their respective personalities, they can work it out. |

Carter, hands down. While it might be said that misery loves company and both have had a lot of misery, both have been there for each other and further, Carter has had the ability to tell Abby to go take care of herself, her family, even when he was hurting, even if it came out slightly harsh. Abby has shown that she can tell Carter when he is messing up, be that honest with him. Frankly, I think Kem is wrong for him (though it's nothing that Kem has done, not her fault). They say love is blind but from my POV, being in love with Kem has absolutely blinded Carter so he can't see the path of destruction that he has engaged on, such as burning up the capital of the family estate when he really doesn't know any other way to live. Carter is not thrifty. And Kem doesn't have the ability, hasn't shown much of an ability to be able to point that out to him. At least Abby would ........ or could. My opinion about Luka has been made in other sections, so I won't repeat them here. (as I read through other posts, I sort of feel like I'm the middle of a missile exchange!) Basically, I don't see him as right for her. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ("Mr. Worf, you are not the first crewmember to have a new addition to his family. It's true that Carter left her. He promised he would be there, but then left. But Luby is more about psycial connection, while Carby was more emotional. Carter understood Abby and she understood him. You could tell they loved each other
Probably cuz they started out as really great friends, while Luka and Abby just kind of jumped into a realtionship.

Nothing. She never did anything for Carter, just like Maura never wanted the carby storyline and never wanted to work with Noah. It's not Noah's fault, the producers had to come up with another storyline for his character and they made Kem for him. Also, the only reason for Noah to come back to the show is to continue this storyline, nothing else, he doesn't want to do Chicago County scenes, he said it very clear. Carter doesn't even care about Abby, just like SHE never cared about him (oh yes, it comes to my mind the day Gamma died... she couldn't even hug him, that scene said everything about Abby's feelings for Carter, she never loved him or cared about him, she just USED him or maybe Maura used him to get more screentime, whatever, they made an unbalanced love storyline where everything was about Abby: her brother, her mom, her problems, her drinking, her everything, etc ) . Now, Carter and Abby are not even friends, they just work in the same building... and not anymore. Carter is in love with another woman, he is not part of this equation. Leave him out. I can't believe this thread even exists. |
