Was it a boot this time? Or perhaps a wadded up magazine? Maybe a rusty tin can? Well, whatever it was, it's already grabbed you by your navel and whipped you across the island, continent, or possibly even the world, and deposited you on a deserted stretch of misty moor. A voice calls out the time and where you've just come from. Once you've regained your bearings, you find the face this voice is attached to just in time to receive the directions to your campsite. You set off, though the mist is so thick you begin to wonder about the direction. After about twenty minutes you can just make out a small stone cottage next to a gate. A few steps further and you can make out the ghostly shapes of hundreds and hundreds of tents, rising up the gentle slope of a large field toward a dark wood on the horizon. Approaching the gate, you find a young man looking cheerful as he consults a clipboard in his hands. "'Ello," he greets you, "Are you another pre-booking?" An affirmative, followed by a short (or long, depending on your familiarity) fumbling with the Muggle bills to exchange for a map of the campsite. Then you're through the gate and on your way, perhaps musing to yourself about how this one differs so much from the site-keeper from '94. The tents you pass along your way, laid out in long, orderly rows, are mostly ordinary; their owners had clearly tried to make them as Muggle-like as possible. Some, however, have chimneys, or bellpulls, or weather vanes attached, and others are so obviously magical that you have to wonder how the Muggle site-keeper can stay so oblivious! Having finally navigated your way through the somewhat orderly chaos, you reach an empty space with your last name (probably misspelled) on a small sign. Now, strictly speaking there's no magic allowed, so you should put up your tent(s) by hand. But, really, whether it takes a few seconds, a few minutes, or a few hours is up to you... Now that you have a place to relax, you finally begin to ruminate on your situation. You're somewhere in the UK. It's the semifinals, so there are still 4 teams left: England, Brazil, Egypt and USA. You've gotten time off for all three remaining matches. The first semifinal match (England vs Brazil) won't take place until tonight (real time TBD), so you've arrived with plenty of time to relax on your own or mingle with others outside... Hm, decisions decisions... This is an open thread. Any and all canon characters are welcome to attend. The above information is intended as inspiration. Your characters' thoughts and actions/reactions may differ. You are welcome to rewrite your own entrance to the campgrounds, so long as you stay within canon guidelines (consult GoF Ch7). Updates in schedule (match starts, winners, etc.) will be made by me. Characters used/introduced in this thread should be new. Histories for characters should not rely on information previously established in Diffindo Role Play. Previously established names and character profiles are allowed, but only on the terms that they have been 'reset' and are starting fresh. Character profiles are not necessary before entering this thread. Word Count Limit is not enforced, though it is encouraged that you try to be succinct. Regular site rules about content apply. Contact me, Berith and/or Tom with any questions. Have fun! |

Curled up in his little corner of the campground with his small tent up and holding strong (without magic) Dev Leander was more than excited for everything that was going to happen over the next few days. He'd been trying to get here for years and now he was finally here. Newly graduated from Hogwarts the year before, Dev was a small boy with short brown hair. He looked more like he was 13 rather than 18. He let his hair do whatever it wanted, occasionally slicking it back should the situation call for it. It didn't right now. Being half muggle and still very much in touch with his mother's side of the family (who didn't know he was a wizard) he had been camping many times before so setting the one person tent up had been very easy for him, almost second nature really. And it hadn't taken him long at all. Now he was just sitting in his tent, watching the people around as most of them pulled out their wands and put their tent up. Occasionally someone would need a hand and Dev was always willing to help out with that. |

Gene stood with his little sister grabbing tightly to his arm with both her hands. He had set up the tent and his younger brother was setting up his spot inside. There were plenty of people moving around preparing for the festivities. His dark slightly curly black hair moved about the top of his neck, ice blue eyes looking around and a smirk at the corner of his lips. He wore black robes with jeans and a white T shirt beneath them, his wand was in a pocket on the inside of his robes, easy to reach as it normally was. Jeni was a first year student at Hogwarts the past year and shared the color of her older brother's hair but her eyes were a bright emerald green. Her eyes were wide with excitement, but also fear. She was gripping onto her brother’s arm so not to get lost in the crowd. This was her first Quidditich World Cup and she was not completely sure what to make of it. Her wand was awkwardly sticking out of her right pocket poking the side of her robes. Gabe was inside moving his bed and preparing his spot in the tent to make sure he would not have to worry about falling out of it at any point. He had a habit of falling out of bed and he wanted to make sure that he was low enough it wouldn't hurt. After he felt it was all set he made his way out of the tent grabbing a shrunken couch on his way out and moved to stand next to his little sister, so that she had a brother on both sides. Tapping the couch and muttering a quick enlarging spell under his breath the couch seemed to inflate after he had set it on the ground. He was in his last year at Hogwarts. His eyes had the same emerald hue as Jeni's but his hair was a brown color, rather than the dark black his siblings had. He was a few inches shorter than his brother that stood at about six feet. Jeni came up to about his middle as she was a bit shorter than five feet. The younger two were wearing matching black robes, though each had a different emblem on the back in support of their favorite team as the seams of the robes also matched colors of their favorite team. Once Jeni realized Gabe was standing next to her she let one arm go from her eldest brother and was then grabbing onto both of them tightly. A small smile crossed over Gabe's face as he shook his head. He wondered if anyone he knew was going to be at the games. Gene smiled at his younger brother when he finally joined them. It was nice for the three of them to have some time to just hang out. He was four years older than Gabe. The tent was held up magically, though from the outside it looked merely like a tarp had been thrown up and secured over a patch of ground. The inside had a small kitchen and living area with three small rooms off of it as well as a simple bathroom. Gabe lifted Jeni up and took a seat on the couch sitting her in his lap. Gene chose to sit on the other side as they watched everyone else get settled. |

Seeing people he knew, Dev stood up and walked over to where his old friend and his siblings were chilling out for the moment. From the looks of it they had done their set up the easy way. "Hey guys." He waved at them as he approached. He had known Gene for the years they had been together in school with Gene being two years older then he was. His younger brother Gabe was two years younger and they met occasionally in the halls and such. He hadn't met their younger sister, even though he had heard about her. "Didn't know you'd be here. How's it going?" |

When Jersey landed from using the portkey, she readjusted her backpack and tent and looked towards the campsite She couldn't believe that she had come to watch Quidditch let alone the world cup. After paying the old gentleman, she made her way through the hustle and bustle of the witches and wizards alike nodding and smiling at people. Upon reaching her spot to pitch her tent, Jersey put down her things and opened her tent. It was very much like a muggle pop-up tent with a few modifications. Jersey could easily fit two or three extra people with room to spare. Once this was done and the tent was securely fixed, she put her belongings inside her tent and went for a walk. Jersey wasn't sporting any team unlike others so people could see her platinum pixie like hair and slightly pointed ears, her face had the odd wrinkle but not enough to over age her which at 21 Jersey was glad. Coming to see Quidditch was Jersey's final goal of things to do before finding a proper job and settling down so Jersey was here to enjoy herself. |

Gene got up from the couch. "Hey Dev, is all good. Yourself?" he asked. Jeni was looking at him quizzically here eyes going from her brother to the guy talking to him. "Jeni this Dev, Dev this is Jeni. Gabe and I were at Hogwarts with him." He added. Jeni smiled as if content with that and waved. Gabe set her in the seat that Gene had just vacated. She pouted and Gabe shook his head as he gave a wave to Dev. He really did not know the older boy all that well, but he was not even sure if Gene did either as from what he could remember Dev had not only been in a different House but had had different friends. Then again Gene was a relatively friendly and popular guy so it was not like he did not know people all over the school while he had been there. "Here with anyone?" Gene asked as he looked around to see if Dev was with anyone. He could not remember if Dev had had a girlfriend or anything for that matter. They had not been close friends, but simply a casual 'hey, how's it going?' in the hallway sort of relationship. |

"I'm doing good, excited to be here. And hi Jeni, nice to meet you." Dev replied with a smile. "And nah. My dad got us both tickets and then he got called into work cause everyone else is here. So I'm by myself." He gave a shrug at all. He had someone expected this to go bad since he never got time with his dad and if he did it wasn't for long. |

Michael stumbled through the organised chaos around him, dodging tent pegs and plucking gingerly at his knitted vest/swim shorts combo. Being a proud pure-blood, he had no idea what muggle attire was appropriate, but the quizzical look from the gate-keeper told him this probably wasn’t it. The goose-bumps on his legs were also a good indication. Finally reaching a patch of land that he assumed was meant to have his name on it (since when did ‘Calendar’ have an ‘i’ in it?) he dropped his tent and was about to take out his wand from the pocket of his muggle raincoat when he noticed one of the ministry workers patrolling the area. That meant there was probably a muggle or two about, and he wasn’t going to be the one to raise suspicion. Gazing at the tents around him, he searched for somebody to give him a hand. There were a few people standing outside other tents, or walking around, and he ran a hand nervously through his thick brown hair and tried to look pitiful enough for some Good Samaritan to come over. |

When Jersey had gotten to a falling down wall, she looked in to the next field and decided to head back to her tent to unpack her backpack. What didn't help was that she was getting hungry and there was a book with her name on it. Turning round, Jersey started to hum a tuneless melody and headed back the way she came. After a few minutes, Jersey managed to find her tent amongst the sea of tents and people. A few pitches over, Jersey saw a wizard looking a little lost and a little strange in his outfit. Shaking her head, Jersey knew she had see stranger wizards and witches. Quickly unpacking her bag and fetching herself a bottle of water, Jersey went to help the man.[/i] "Are you alright there? You look like you've been hit with the confundus charm." |

Michael gave the witch his most winning smile. “I feel like I’ve been hit with one, too.” He gestured lamely to his empty patch of grass. “Don’t suppose you know how to put up a tent by hand? I never took muggle studies at school.” He stuffed his hands in his pockets to keep them out of the cold, wishing he had re-thought his outfit. The second his tent was up he was going to change into his robes, muggles or no. Suddenly remembering his manners, he removed one hand and extended it in greeting. “Michael Calendar,” he told her. His smile became a little more apologetic as he added “thanks for stopping to help.” |

Jersey smiled back at the man and shook his hand. "I'm Jersey Hutton, nice to meet you Michael. I'm always happy to help, I would hate to left along and no one to help me." Jersey knelt down and looked at the tent and started to lay out the poles and then the material. Putting the pegs to one side, Jersey looked up at Michael and asked, "Did it come with instructions? That would making the tent a lot easier. Failing that we just put it up the old fashioned way. The muggle doesn't seem to watching." Jersey started to make a small attempt to put the poles together while looking for the instructions. "Is this your first time to the Qudditch World Cup then? Or just your first time putting a muggle up? To Jersey it looked like his first time out in the muggle world the way he was dressed let alone first time camping. Even Jersey was dressed simply in jeans and a white t-shirt. |

Gene nodded. "How is your old man doing?" he asked. The thing with Gene was he was good with small talk and making other people comfortable around him. He was a decently good guy. "You can feel free to hang around here if you want." he said with a smile. "What fun is watching quidditch on your own." If this was how the World Cup was going to go Gabe was not sure he wanted to stick about. This was supposed to be bonding with his big borther and a weekend with his sister. The three had been in seperate houses and it was not like they had ever been on the same schedule. Gabe was in Gryffindor, Jeni was a Hufflepuff, and Gene had been in Ravenclaw. He had been looking forwards to this for a while as he and Gene had planned it so long ago when he was in his second year. Though his thoughts were not shown on his face as he merely seemed to watch the crowds of people around them. Jeni was smiling, just happy to be there. She leaned over onto Gabe using his shoulder as a headrest as she decided if they weren't going to do anything she may as well take a nap. |

"My dad's doing fine as always. Working a ton, as always. But it's alright. Your parents?" Small talk. Dev didn't mind small talk much but he was a bit restless today. He was excited, which was acceptable. And when he was excited he wasn't one to just chill in one spot for all that long. "Eh, I'm good. Gonna wonder around a bit I think. Thanks though." |

Gene shrugged his shoulders. "They're as good as they've been." he stated with a smile. He looked at his younger siblings and then back to Dev. "Probably going to go make food or something soon. Guess we'll see you around." He smiled and turned and scooped Jeni up into his arms as she had almost completely fallen asleep. Jeni's head popped up and she smiled at her brother as she clambered onto his back for a piggy back ride into the tent. They were going to do something, yay she thought. The two disappeared into the tent. Gabe smiled at Dev looked around a moment to make sure the coast was clear and shrunk the couch and tucked it in one of his pockets. He gave a slight nod of the head before he disappeared after his siblings. |

Slowly, a stout figure of medium height filed past the row of tents already set up, his head set on its path without a sideways glance. Though his dress screamed of wealth and his shoes were shined like diamonds, his eyes lacked a similar sparkle. Ashcroft Baynes had been to many World Cups before, and with each he grew slightly more tired of the certain debauchery that would haunt his sleep and rattle his bones. To think he was once as bouncy as they! As the fellow reached his perpetually assigned space, he gave a bit of a smirk, pulling his wand from his pocket with secretive flair. He had shucked the rules for years, and he had no intention to lift a finger more than was absolutely necessary. |
