The Police are to headline the second Virgin music festival in the US.![]() The Police tour marks 30 years since the band's formation The Beastie Boys and Smashing Pumpkins will also headline the festival on 4 and 5 August in Baltimore, Maryland. Last year's event was held in September but festival organiser Seth Hurwitz told Billboard.com it had been moved this year to accommodate The Police. It will take place at the same time as Lollapalooza, which is "not ideal", he said. "But given the choice of booking The Police or not we had to go for it." The pop band launch their reunion tour in Canada on 28 May, reaching the UK in September. The group, who have sold more than 50 million albums, split in 1983. |

I agree, to some extent. Its hard to believe they can still pull in the crowds but if people want to see them and are happy to, I think they should continue doing what they are doing unless they have any other plans on an individual basis. And the hits they have produced in the past are great.

This year should be great for music with the Police, Smashing Pumpkins, The Beastie Boys, and Rage Against the Machine, all reuniting. I think it's great that they will save us from all the emos, musicians with no skill, fake(or pretty much poser) punk bands and the list goes on of bad music around today. But hey that's just my overly negative opinion of how music is today.

I agree, AoB. Most of the popular chart music is pure crap that most teenagers listen to - Theres more room for the Alternitive rock gerne. Personally, I love Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters. The Police and Beastie Boys are alright. But their better than some of the untalented bags of sh-t that roam around Hollywood thinking their so "talented" when they havent even heard music.
