credit: joystiq.com Sony placed a full-page advertisement in the April 2006 issue of PC Gamer congratulating that magazine on their recent decision to stop taking advertisements from companies that amass huge piles of gold and other virtual items in games like World of Warcraft and Everquest in order to sell these virtual goods for real money. (The practice is often referred to as "real money trade," or RMT.) First, we've got to give props to PC Gamer, because they've taken an editorial stance against advertising that they feel harms certain game environments. More game magazines should be willing to turn down advertising revenues when they feel it compromises editorial quality. That said, Sony's note sounds a little whiney. They write, "For every fix we make in our games, for every new tool we develop for our customer service teams, there are literally thousands of unscrupulous people around the globe looking for ways to poke holes in our games and find exploits in our worlds." |

Gold farming is evil not only the labor they must use for it but also it ruins the game. The gold farmers slow the servers down and get in the way of real players just to get gold to $ell to n00bz. | |

Damn advertiser give no mercy. I would say that the game advertisers should get their asses back onto the internet and start posting there, Not in the GOD DAMN games! Who thought of such an idea to make video game advertisments in the first place? |

Gold farming has nothing to do with advertising thats just product placement. Gold farming is in MMORPGs where a ton of labor and sever bots just mine gold or currency in the game. They then sell it to n00bz via their service or ebay. For n00bz who don't want to play through the game and work hard so they just buy it. They do post on the internet every commerical cheat/news site has like 1 or 2 pages of ads before you can get to your info and then tons of banner ads on the page with google ads. |
