NEW YORK - A memorial service for ABC News anchorman Peter Jennings, who died of lung cancer on Aug. 7, will be held on Sept. 20 at New York’s Carnegie Hall.

The family held a private service, but announced the plans for the memorial to “celebrate the life” of Jennings. ABC News wouldn’t provide any details Thursday about who would speak there.

A limited number of free tickets will be available to the general public on a first-come, first-served basis at the Carnegie Hall box office starting at 8 a.m. on Sept. 20. The service starts at 11 a.m.
