Blade coming to the Box
Posted on Fri, 6-May-2005

It's been rumoured for a while that the vampire hunter was eyeing a TV spin-off, and today, Spike TV confirmed the talk. "Blade" is indeed being modified to fit the size of your screen.

Next year, Spike TV will unleashed a small screen spin-off of the "Blade" film series.

It's unlikely Wesley Snipes will reprise his role in the TV outing (but you never know, these are desperate times for the Demolition Man), which kicks off as a two-hour, action-adventure, television movie in early 2006.

"The action-adventure genre is largely ignored in today's television landscape, and we know it is something that our male viewers really want," said Spike TV President Doug Herzog. "Blade is a great movie franchise with an established brand that men already recognize and identify with."

"Blade Trinity" director David Goyer will executive produce the project, but he won't be writing it - he's too busy scrawling a story for "The Flash", his next big superhero outing.

New Line Television and Marvel Studios are producing the pilot.

David Goyer - who also wrote the trilogy of films - mentioned last year that a "Blade" TV series was something they were looking at, and dropped Michael Jai White's ["Spawn"] name in relation to being a perfect proxy for the glasses-adorned hero.

As the press release reminds us, Blade is the unforgettable legend of an immortal warrior who battles a thriving underworld of vampires seeking to decimate the human race. Half man and half vampire, Blade uses his fierce powers and skills to fearlessly battle the demonic creatures of the night and carry on a blood-drenched crusade to prevent the ascendance of vampires over mankind.

The blockbuster film starred actor Wesley Snipes and spawned two sequels. Combined, the films have earned more than $400 million worldwide.

Thanks to 'Spike'

That's a given Nuke. Just like the upcoming Star Wars TV series will NOT come close to the flicks. Still plan on checking it out and see if it's any good.

I'm not a big fan of the Blade movies, so I might give this series a miss.
