Reynolds to direct Sharky's Machine remake
Posted on Wed, 20-Apr-2005

'Tis the season to remake ol' Burt Reynolds flicks.

Hot on the heels of "The Longest Yard" remake - which, by the way, is getting some relatively pleasing feedback - Reynolds tells Latino Review that both a remake of "Sharky's Machine" and "Cannonball Run" are in the works.

Though he won't be having anything to do with the "Run" redo - he says you can't top the original, if only for the cast - he is the brains behind the "Sharky's Machine" once-over.

Reynolds tells the site he'll likely direct it, and hopes George Clooney plays the lead.

"Sharky's Machine" (1981) told of a narcotics cop in Atlanta who, while chasing a dealer, gets involved in a shootout that doesn't please the top brass. As a result, he's sent down to the Vice division, which he considers the lowest rung on the ladder. There, he gets involved with the investigation of a double murder of a blind prostitute and her "john". Sharky ultimately goes head to head with druglord Vítor who intends to spread his organization's tentacles over the United States.

The storyline doesn't sound that bad. Might be a good watch.
