Ice Cube Eyeing Another Friday

He might be headlining big-banked blockbusters like "XXX 2", but Ice Cube tells Moviehole he's not forgetting about some of the smaller film series' that he cut his teeth on. In particular, the "Friday" series, which spawned two relatively successful sequels.

Talking to Moviehole's Paul Fischer this week, Cube said he's in talks to do another sequel to the 1995 comedy fave.

“Size kind of doesn’t matter,” Cube tells, smilingly. “It really matters on the people I’m working with, and on the script. We’ve got a few things in development, in the mix, but I don’t really like to talk about it until I know that they can be made.” All he can say is the Friday franchise is far from dead. “That’s starting up again and starting to rekindle. Every time I put it to bed, people start to ask about it. Mike Epps is asking about it and John Witherspoon wants to do another one, so when you get those people excited, you start to say hey.”

The first "Friday" told the tale of Craig and Smokey (Cube and Chris Tucker), two guys in Los Angeles hanging out on their porch on a Friday afternoon, smoking and drinking. The modestly budgeted comedy pocketed a cool $27,900,000 on release.

When Tucker opted out of the sequel, Mike Epps joined the troupe - as Craig's cousin - and has been with the parade ever since. The latest sequel, "Friday After Next", was released in 2002.
