Guys, I think you need to wait and find out first if it is really a good idea to use horses to patrol those areas before you jump into conclusion. The LAPD, NYPD, Chicago PD, SFPD and others police departments use mounted police to patrol their city parks, streets and beaches.
With cars, you will need gas so that you can go from point A to point B. And I don 't think 100 pesos of gas is enought for the whole day patrol. You need to change oil every 3-4 months, change tires when you have flat ones, broken windows. Also, it'll be hard for you to patrol those areas at night if your lights are broken. |

Apart from riding skills cops who are assigned to use horses should also be trained to maintain the well-being of the animal which is not an easy exercise. During my training with the NYPD years back, we were oriented with the mounted police unit comprising of cops specially trained not only riding skills and safety, but also were trained how to handle and maintain the health of the animal thru training from Animal Welfare by vets and animal psychologist. Every mounted police has a certificate that qualifies them to be in the mounted unit. If they can do it here, it can be productive to some areas suited to it but to maintain it by the standard, is quite more cumbersome and expensive than the motor vehicle. |

PNP's version of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police? Tourist policemen to ride horses in Benguet By DEXTER A. SEE January 26, 2011, 6:13pm LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Philippines — Tourist policemen assigned in various parts of the province will be riding on horses while performing their duties and responsibilities as part of the government’s national Top Cop program. Senior Supt. Benjamin Lusad, newly-installed director of the Benguet provincial police office, said THE tourist police on horseback will be initially seen in La Trinidad and Kabayan where foreign and domestic tourists usually visit because of the scenic tourist spots there. Initially, there will be seven tourist policemen who will be patrolling on horseback to ensure peace and order in the tourist spots. Earlier, the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Department of Tourism (DoT) mapped out an enhanced tourist police program to provide protection and police assistance to both local and foreign tourists. http://mb.com.ph/articles/300824/tourist-p...-horses-benguet |
