My understanding of the words of the Russian ambassador is that we should distance ourselves from the USA if we want closer relationships with them. Also, new regional architecture? Meaning them and China? By all means, let's buy arms from Russia, and conduct joint naval exercises. But I'd think long and hard before allying ourselves with them. Especially with Putin still in power.

Your understanding is wrong to put it bluntly. He is not saying such things. It is however a common misconception.

The cold war bet. the US and Russia is long gone. There is also no more USSR.

No one is saying you can't be friends to our enemies.

Please people. The Soviet Russia is gone. Russia today is federalist, and the chance that USSR would be reborn would be as remote as China backing off its claim at Panatag shoal.

some people here sre still living in the olden days :lollol:
this is the 21st century and russia is not a communist anymore meaning their the cuddly teddy's that we have. plus their also allies both vietnam and china and those 2 countries are in dispute so i dont think they'll be siding china.

advantages of russia over the US:
equipment-cost effective
no attachments
can help us for our SRDP

so i say go for it to give more experience to our troops not only that to inspect their assest. :specool:

Since you bluntly stated that my understanding of the Russian ambassador's words is wrong maybe you'll be kind enough to state your own understanding of them. I know very well that the Cold War is long over and that the USSR is no more, but in case you haven't noticed, Communism in Russia has been replaced by Ultra-Nationalism, which IMHO is just as bad. The Russians will always have their own agenda, same as the Americans and China. They're not above using weaker nations like us as pawns against their rivals. Again, same as the USA and China. But I'd rather be friends with a true democratic, albeit imperialist to some, USA, rather than Russia.

As I've said previously, by all means let's buy arms from Russia, cultivate friendly and cordial relations, but a big NO on any alliance.

while the traditional alliances would still keep that divisive nature, that would still be a problem,

Sorry Ambassador Kudashev but our alliance with the US is far, far more important. We can always be friends with your vast and great country and we are open of buying stuff from you guys or conducting joint exercises.

However, if a shooting war breaks out in the WPS, it won't be Russia that will be confronting China.

equipment-cost effective

cost effective? how can you say cost effective? in a short run.... but now long? why? Yes, we get it because it's cheaper (daw) but in the end, we pay more, it cost us more & for me it's now inefficient in what i see.... better get other European equipment, there's too many of them maybe for others, it's expensive, but it will be cost effective more in the long run :salute:

There is no rule saying we should only be allied with the US. The cold war between the US and Russia is long gone.

US astronauts are even hitch-hiking on Russian rockets now side-by-side with Russian cosmonauts.

The idea here is to buy the most economical, easier to maintain equipment. What "brand A" might be offering at X price might be offered to us at a half the price with "brand B" with almost the same technology and use.

I am not saying that we buy arms from Russia immediately but if the requirements meets our demand at reasonable price, then by all means lets give it a go.

What's more to explain to you? If I said it's not what he said then it's not what he said.
He is not in any way implying or insinuating that we distance ourselves with the US. You are the only one that made those conclusions.

By the way, you just contradicted yourself with these statements:

"But I'd rather be friends with a true democratic, albeit imperialist to some, USA, rather than Russia.

By the way, having military exercises with Russia does not mean we are dumping US and making a 360 degree turn towards Russia. Roll eyes.
