Hello all. I am currently making a draft for a fiction military thriller book titled, "The Great Red Dragon Trembled". Here is the plot; As China and the Philippines struggled to maintain peace over the Scarborough Crisis, China is already making ways to claim the islands to supply their oil-hungry economy. BRP Gregorio Del Pilar, fresh from her overhaul from Alameda, California, was now a machine of destruction. She is already armed with a four-shot harpoon launcher, an ASROC launcher, FIM-92 Block II MANPADS, and currently with her BO 105 Helicopter, which is armed with a simple Penguin missile. As it patrols the shoal, its new sonar detected an underwater target lurking just outside the peripherals of the shoal. As it closed on it target, 3 torpedoes went for the ship. The captain successfully evaded torpedoes, but the third was a near miss, which exploded a bare 50 meters from the ship's stern. The explosion was powerful enough to break the Goyo's screws. As she turned and called for help, she was going to counterattack. Her ASROC launcher sent 5 torpedoes to the water. Meanwhile, aboard the Chinese Jin Class SSBN, the Chinese captain was faced with a critical decision. His orders were only to patrol the waters around the shoal, but the orders did not say anything if they were attacked. His submarine instantly moved at flank speed, forming a "knuckle" of water that slightly confused the incoming torpedoes, while three were successfully confused, but two went to the sub, one hitting the stern, crippling the engines, and one fatally hit the sail, which instantly doomed the submarine by piercing a wide hole on the sail. As the Goyo limped back to Cavite Naval Shipyards for minor repairs before being sent to the US for total repair, being towed by BRP Rizal and BRP Jose Andrada, which was coincidentally going out to relieve the Goyo on patrol duty on a temporary basis. However, as they were limping away, two PLANAF aircraft zoomed in and strafed the Goyo, hitting the ship and leaving the Goyo with 39 injured, 3 severely. The planes were forced to withdraw from the fact that they were lightly armed and faced 20mm and 25mm fire from the Goyo and her escorts. Meanwhile, China demanded that the Philippines had intentionally sunk one of their SSBNs without prior warning. Philippines demanded why an SSBN was lurking so close, so close in fact that they could have been hit with SLBMs without warning. As the diplomatic crisis intensify, due to the apparent assassination of the Chinese Ambassador to the Chinese government by Filipino activists, China sent her largest warship a week after the crisis; The aircraft carrier Shi Lang, together with 9 escorts and replenishment vessels. Meanwhile, the US Navy is caught in a fix; their supposed nearest carrier, the USS George Washington, homeported at Yokusuka, Japan, was back home at Norfolk, being repaired due to a collision with a Chinese fishing vessel a month before the crisis. USS Cowpens and USS Shiloh were called to Battle Stations, as well as DESRON 15. They were en route to Scarborough Shoal, but they would be too late to catch upon the Chinese. Air Forces from Andersen Air base at Guam are rushing to Pag-asa Island Airbase, but that would take a day, and not counting the refueling of such forces. Meanwhile, the Philippine Navy and Air Force are not idling. The Air force sent their newly-bought F-16C/D Fighting Falcons to Pag-Asa island as a deterrent. Also, the BRP Andres Bonifacio (USS Dallas), was immediately sent to Pag-Asa isalnd as well, although she has no long range- weaponry to speak of. P-3C Orions and E-3C Sentry aircraft some Villamor Air Base was sent by the Americans to Pag-Asa as well, by encouragement from the Philippine Government. The Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian and the Taiwanese were invited by the Philippines to move against this Chinese "Tyranny". However, China had tried to severely limit the help available to the Philippine government; China has pressured Vietnam to not involve itself in the crisis through economic pressures, but Vietnam sent 3 ships on direct course to the Chinese task Force. TO BE CONTINUED... |

CONTINUATION... Indonesia and Malaysia also sent ships, but were rendered ineffectual by a "blockade" of fishing boats in their ports. The Thai sent their most powerful piece, the HTMS Chakri Naruebet, but her contribution here is nearly insignificant, with only one SVTOL aircraft. So, China is able to strangle useful help from nearby allied nations. As the Chinese task force neared Pag-asa Island, the Philippine knows that they couldn't win against the Chinese using brute force. They have to use subterfuge, in one way or another. In desperation, the Philippines used the BRP Andres Bonifacio, only armed with FIM-92 Stingers and her myriad of guns, as an inviting target whilst 2 squadrons of F-16C/Ds are approaching in the parallel direction. The Bonnie managed to evade missile using her SRBOC Chaff, however, the noose was getting tighter. Until finally, a missile hit the aft helicopter deck, penetrated through the engines, and holed the boat at the keel. She stopped dead in the water, and her captain knew that she was doomed. As the Chinese ship got in range of the Bonnie, she opened fire, but after a minute, her guns were silenced, and the captain finally ordered abandon ship. But, the Bonifacio's ruse came to a success. The F-16s blasted through MiG-29Ks without experiencing a single loss due to quarterbacking provided by the American E-3 Sentry aircraft. As the strike squadron came in range, they hit the Chinese ships, hard. A smart bomb fell to the superstructure of the Shi Lang, rendering the Task Force Admiral and most of the senior staff dead, and straddling the carrier. The strike aircraft targeted primarily the bridge and the missile launchers of the Chinese ships. Within 5 minutes, the task force were still afloat but rendered useless with no senior officers to command the ships. Meanwhile, the dead hulk of the Bonifacio was towed by an American destroyer per request by the Philippine government. But, the Chinese had one last ploy; an economic attack. Philippine-based Chinese hackers hacked through the computers of the Philippine Stock Exchange, but were quickly located by Filipino Hacktivists and were reported to the Police and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency before they could cause damage. Meanwhile, as they lost, the Chinese has one last stratagem; a full Nuclear attack on the Philippines. However, their last ploy had been foiled by Nationwide attacks on China's Power Plants, including a massive "terrorist" bombing of the Three Gorges Dam. The Philippines did not acknowledge the act. Fortunately, the damage were only limited to the turbines and the power lines, and the dam was so massively built that only a single crack was seen on the outside. As response to the apparent "surprise" attack made by the Chinese, members of the U.N. voted to a complete trade embargo comparable to the isolation made by North Korea. China lost in the vote, with only Iran voting nay. All others, including the U.S., France, Spain, Britain, and others voted aye to the Trade embargo. Borderline security was made powerful by Russia, India and other border countries. As for the Philippines, the BRP Gregorio Del Pilar and the BRP Andres Bonifacio was towed back to the US for repair. Finally, as tokens of gratitude, Spain offered to the Philippines an Aircraft Carrier project for a discounted price, India and Russia sold the BrahMos missile for the Philippine government, South Korea, Japan and Singapore enhanced trade relations with the Philippines, and the US did not stop these weapon acquisition projects. Meanwhile, the Philippines faced a lesser problem; anti-Chinese fervor reverberated throughout the country, and Chinese businessmen and women were being assaulted one by one. To face this threat, the President made a speech, calling the Filipinos "to live in peace" with the Chinese, for they were civilians and not military men. Any comments? Suggestions? |
