Four people injured in Robinsons Galleria robbery incident ANDREO CALONZO, GMA NEWS March 29, 2012 11:10am (UPDATED 1:0 p.m.) — At least four people were reported injured after armed men opened fire inside the Robinsons Galleria mall in Quezon City before noon on Thursday and hurled a grenade at bystanders while making their escape. Rose Ann Villegas, public relations head of Robinsons Land, said two armed men “forcibly entered” the mall shortly before the establishment opened at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. The suspects targeted the Sanrys Money Changer branch on the first floor of the mall, she added. “Remember that these men are armed… Talagang forcibly ang pagpasok nila,” Villegas said in a briefing after the incident. She added that two security guards assigned to secure a nearby Security Bank branch were injured during the incident. Villegas said the suspects fled using a motorcycle. Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)’s Vincent Lizada meanwhile said that two other bystanders waiting for a ride near the area also obtained injuries. <snipped> The incident also snarled traffic near the mall, prompting the MMDA to advise motorists to avoid passing through the area. The mall closed for two hours following the robbery incident, but resumed operations at 12 noon, according to Villegas. <snipped> More of the article here. |

1 dead, 3 wounded in Robinson's Galleria holdup 29-Mar-12, 11:22 AM | Abigail Kwok, InterAksyon.com MANILA, Philippines -- (UPDATE 3 - 1:13 p.m.) One person died and three others were wounded when gunmen fired shots and hurled a grenade as they held up security guards delivering cash to a moneychanger at the Robinson's Galleria mall on EDSA and Ortigas Avenue in Quezon City Thursday morning. The incident happened shortly before 11 a.m., less than an hour after the mall had opened for business. Rose Ann Villegas, public relations head of Robinson's Land, said the two gunmen arrived on a motorcycle, entering the mall’s Level 1 from the parking lot then holding up the guards, who were on their way to the Sanry’s money changing shop. Police said the robbers had posed as security guards to enter the mall undetected. They then shot the guards and hurled two grenades as they fled. One of the guards died later. Only one of the grenades exploded, wounding two bystanders outside the mall. Police secured the unexploded grenade. It remained unclear whether the robbers managed to take the money. <snipped> Meanwhile, a separate statement sent by Robinson’s Galleria hours after the incident said that at least two armed men tried to rob the roving tellers of Security Bank in Quezon City at around Thursday at ten in the morning. “Police authorities responded to the alarm, which is part of the mall security setup, within 15 minutes,” the statement said. <snipped> More of the article here. |

I am starting to note an uptick in violent crimes occurring in the Northern Philippines. The crimes that are occurring seem to be more brazen. I am still waiting on feedback from the Visayas and Mindanao. Anyone from those areas able to corroborate an recent increase in violent crimes? |
