Obama's alleged-to-be-communist reputation is at stake in this security issue that hounds PHilippines. So as not to be suspected of "your fellow US resident commie" (as alleged in my poem), Obama suggested at the instance of nobody that it "is time to strengthen security in Asia". The issue that hounds us is right now "in his face'. What is he waiting for? Why not install Patriot Missiles right away the way Reagan installed them in Scandinavian countries during the Cold War. As a CIA with a rank of GS25, I'd say it was another dirty trick of _____ to trick Obama into refusing to do something about them. Only in the last minute will the authorities budge in and file a warrant of surveillance again for the nth time on him for treason. You are too lucky you got a CIA GS-25 Filipino like me.

The chance of anyone getting hit by that debris is remote as hell. Mostly fear mongering and soon prices of commodities at the palangkes will shoot up due to "concerns over supply".

I doubt a bamboo hut or a thin tin roof will do much to stop any falling debris that did end up raining over land.

I agree.

A jettisoned first stage rocket usually fall as a whole, very large object at sea, if it gets blown into a thousand pieces by missiles then the chances of injury to people & damage to property are multiplied a thousand fold.

Yes, but the point is if they can, they will, again. Next time with a nuclear warhead.
Modernization should prioritize:

Patrol Ships with air/sub/ship detection, fast & lightly armed for Navy.
Surface Attack Aircraft with anti ship/sub attack capability for Airforce.
SAM with Radars, Close AA battery capable of shooting ground targets too for Army.
This triangle defense will work together and protect us from external threats.

Bakit nga naman kasi sa pilipinas pa ipapatama ng NK yung missile nila eh pagkadami dami dyan na pede nilang tirahin tayo pa? For them to claim they are in a full defensive mode while launching and targeting the philippine islands are just full of BS. They got china and russia at their northern side and why us? Hit their own friends and not us!

Ilang lugar sa Pilipinas, posibleng bagsakan ng debris ng rocket mula sa North Korea

There is absolutely no proof that the NK's will launch a subsequent rocket with a nuclear warhead "over us". We are spinning this issue out of control. First the rocket stages should be landing in a clear area of this immediate launch. Things have a chance of spinning out of control if someone decides to pop their rocket after launch.

Any subsequent launch would be very unlikely to have a nuclear warhead on it. It would be a net loss for them to launch a rocket with a real nuclear warhead. They would waste a nuke for starters, if something went wrong they would lose support from whomever still supported them(China).

If they need to test the rockets nuclear launch capability they simply need to create a dummy load that is the same shape, size and weight of their current weapons and "install" that item for a test launch.

If they want to go one step further, they could create the warhead but without the radioactive material and launch that to test its effectiveness. I am sure the pakis would be willing to validate some of their work...

Let's just go with the flow. This is the perfect opportunity for the DND/AFP to lobby for us to get a Patriot missile defense system or Russian S-300 system w/c is more affordable.

I particularly like the way Ramos nonchalantly saying "We do not not have capabilities to shoot down missiles" unlike Japan and South Korea. Even local mediamen in local TV and radio stations is criticizing the Gov't on why we do not have such capabilities.
I hope if he gets interviewed again, he mentions that Vietnam a country considered no better or even slightly poorer than us have such capability w/ 2 S-300PMU1 batallions to protect them from missiles and aircrafts from China. Hope, the media can pick that up too.

Sooner or later we do need the capability to shoot down any missiles whether it's intended for us or will just stray in our territory. The media and the public are very receptive and even criticizes the Gov't on why we do not have such capabilities. Why DND/AFP is not pouncing on the opportunity is beyond me. Hope Russia goes pro-active and offer their S-300 to us and markets it that if Vietnam can buy 2 batallions for $300M then Philippines can afford it too.

North Korea warns other nations: intercept of rocket is an act of war
06-Apr-12, 10:05 PM | PNA/Yonhap

SEOUL - North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has ratcheted up his regime's militaristic rhetoric as Pyongyang threatened to retaliate against any country that intercepts a North Korean rocket booster or collects the rocket debris.

<snipped>

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea in Pyongyang warned that interception of the satellite would be "an act of war" and would cause a tremendous catastrophe.

Whoever "intercepts the satellite or collects its debris will meet immediate, resolute and merciless punishment" from the North, the committee said in an English-language statement carried by its Korean Central News Agency late Thursday.

The warning came days after South Korea said it was exploring measures to intercept the rocket booster in case it veers off its trajectory. Japan has also ordered its troops to shoot down the rocket if there is concern it or parts of it could land on Japan.

South Korea expects the rocket's first-stage booster to land in international waters, some 170 kilometers south of its southwestern city of Gunsan, before the rocket's second stage booster falls east of the Philippines.

The statement also warned South Korea against any provocation, noting any attack by Seoul on Pyongyang would mean the "end of everything in South Korea."

North Korea "will mete out the unimaginable and the most miserable punishment to its rival if it dares fire into the sky above the (North), Pyongyang, in particular," the statement said.

The North's threat came after South Korea vowed it would attack the North's capital in retaliation if the communist country strikes Seoul.

Meanwhile, North Korean leader Kim has also ordered his troops to bury the nation's enemies at sea if they "dare intrude into the territorial waters" of the North. Kim made the comment during his inspection trip to a navy unit that seized a U.S. spy ship, Pueblo, in 1968, the KCNA said in a dispatch on Friday.

Kim "set forth the tasks for rounding off combat preparations and bolstering the combat capability," the dispatch said.
