Japan prepares defences against N. Korean rocket

Quote:

Japan on Friday readied its missile defence systems to shoot down a North Korean rocket if it threatens the country, as the UN chief warned that next month's launch could jeopardise food aid.

"I have ordered officials to prepare to deploy the PAC-3 and Aegis warships," Japan's Defence Minister Naoki Tanaka told reporters, referring to surface-to-air missiles and destroyers carrying missiles.

The nuclear-armed North has announced it will launch a rocket in mid-April to put a satellite into orbit, a move that the United States, South Korea and other nations see as a pretext for a long-range missile test banned by the UN.

The move by North Korea's new leadership has set off alarm bells across the region. The Philippines is calling for help from the United States to monitor the rocket, part of which is expected to land off the archipelago.

The second stage is expected to splash down just 190 kilometres (118 miles) east of the northern Philippines.

^ if only they could

there was a similar so-called satellite launch in 2009, this was even worse for japan since the trajectory was right over its main islands, unlike this planned test next month .

japan also mobilized its patriots and aegis and threatened to shoot down the north korean rocket.

north korea proceeded with the launch despite protests of many countries.

the rocket was not shot down by japan.

You can only shoot it down when its falling down or its debris, Thats what happens to weak country like ours, we become target practice.

At least if we have a missile shield they could greatly protect the citizens of the philippines. Well they deserve it, hoping that debris second stage rocket hit the edsa monument.
Modernization should prioritize:

Patrol Ships with air/sub/ship detection, fast & lightly armed for Navy.
Surface Attack Aircraft with anti ship/sub attack capability for Airforce.
SAM with Radars, Close AA battery capable of shooting ground targets too for Army.
This triangle defense will work together and protect us from external threats.

i hope those falling debris will hit congress, so that will teach them a lesson for maintaining a delapidated obsolete AFP. especially those who think we do not need an MRF. there you go tell the PAF to shoot it down with their broncos. lol.

blowing up a a failed rocket is not normally done because it will only spread toxic and dangerous debris in a wider, much larger area.

what puzzles me is that why is it that the trajectory path of the Rocket passes thru our Philippines Air Space? Why can't be somewhere in the middle of the Pacific like between Philippines and Guam as long as in International Waters..

Here's the answer to your puzzlement, why the trajectory is southward ...

North Korean missiles aimed at Australia

Updated March 24, 2012 16:54:26

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-03-24/nort...stralia/3910342

A senior US official says a long-range missile which North Korea plans to test next month will for the first time be aimed towards South-East Asia and Australia.

The assistant secretary of state for East Asia and the Pacific, Kurt Campbell, says the US believes the North Korean missile will land in an area between Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Previous North Korean rockets have been launched over Japan.

PHL, US to track Nokor rocket launch in April — DFA spokesman

AGENCE FRANCE PRESSE March 24, 2012 5:48pm

http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/25262...h-dfa-spokesman

The Philippine and US militaries are coordinating to track the path of a planned North Korean rocket launch, parts of which are expected to land off the archipelago, an official said Saturday.

"The Philippine military is coordinating with its US counterpart in the monitoring of the planned launch," Department of Foreign Affairs spokesman Raul Hernandez told the Agence France Presse (AFP).

His announcement came a day after the USS Blue Ridge, the flagship of the US 7th Fleet in the Pacific, arrived in Manila for a four-day visit.

Hernandez did not divulge details of the joint monitoring, but the allies were expected to hold large-scale joint military exercises in the middle of April to enhance cooperation in case of external threats.
