I hope the Navy can spare some funds to acquire these mean counter-Abu/MILF Machines for the Zamboanga-Basilan-Sulu-Tawi-Tawi theater of ops. This boat can take on even the most modified Abu speed boats, and with Remote Controlled Weapons Systems (RCWS) it has a stable gun that can blast these scums in day or night... ![]() ![]() With 2 x 895 kW MTU 8V2000 M93 diesels engine can boost the boat for 60+ knots (up to 70 knots available depending on engine and configuration selection), the boat endurance : 2 days without replenishment, and max range 300+ nautical miles http://defense-studies.blogspot.com/2011/1...-four-fast.html |

Pretty cool, albeit the price is awesome as well. Looks like this is in service in some middle east country.

Manufacturer is Yonca-Onuk, Istanbul based company (Turkey is a NATO member) specialising on state of the art fast boats cosntructed from advanced composites. The above-mentioned craft is named as ONUK MRTP 16 FAST INTERVENTION CRAFT PRIMARY ROLES ONUK MRTP16® Fast Intervention Craft has been designed to carry out a wide range of littoral and coastal water law enforcement and naval duties, including: Search and rescue Anti smuggling Pollution control Anti terrorist protection of the coastal and offshore installations Surveillance / Covert surveillance Patrol / Escort / Fast attack craft Seal insertion-extraction craft BACKGROUND After very successful performance of the Kaan 15 Class ONUK MRTP15®, the Undersecretariat of Defense Industries, Turkish MoD, decided to continue the program with the extended and improved ONUK MRTP16®. As of July 2005, with 4 units delivered to the Directorate General of Borders and Health and additional units on order within the context of the same project, ONUK MRTP16® is a well proven platform. PERFORMANCE Speed and seakeeping: Depending on engine/configuration selection, the proven ONUK KO-02 deep V hull will enable the boat to reach speeds up to 70 knots in calm waters and above 50 knots in Sea State 3, allowing rapid reaction comparable to a helicopter, and can be used in confined spots or heavy weathers not suitable for helicopter operations. ONUK MRTP16® has a soft and dry ride in adverse conditions. The steerable Twin Disc Arneson Surface Drive system provides extreme maneuverability and a very shallow draught, enhancing the operation in confined waters. ONUK MRTP16® is one of the fastest known platforms of this size with a mission payload capability in the range of 1,8 tons. Stability: Intact-Damaged: Turkish and NATO naval standards have been applied to the ONUK MRTP16® for the intact and damaged stability. ONUK MRTP16® meets the Turkish Navy and NATO criteria for damaged stability and will remain afloat and upright with flooding in any single main compartment. CONSTRUCTION AND COMPONENTS ONUK MRTP16® is built in advanced composites to satisfy the very tough requirements of an intensive professional use together with a long service life. The benefits of the advanced composite structure are: WEIGHT REDUCTION * Improved Performance * Increased Payload * Fuel Savings CORROSION RESISTANCE *Longer service life * Maintenance savings IMPROVED * Threat avoidance/detection * Ballistic protection REDUCED SIGNATURES * Machinery vibration/acoustic * Magnetic signature * Heat signature The hull and superstructure are constructed in accordance with the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Type Approval Certificate 416.01. All boats of the series are delivered with the relevant DNV Certificates. The helm station and the interiors have been designed in line with the SAE recommendations for ergonomics to provide the crew with maximum comfort and minimum fatigue in prolonged use in heavy seas. Machinery and propulsion The mechanical components are selected with the intensive professional use in mind. They offer a high level of reliability, despite the extreme performance requirements. The propulsion is by twin MTU 12V2000M93 diesels, Twin Disc Arneson Surface Drives (ASD12 B1L) and Rolla surface piercing propellers. Depending on the speed requirements, the ONUK MRTP16®can be equipped with different components for optimum operational efficiency / price ratio. MISSION MODULES ONUK MRTP16®can be equipped with various mission modules depending on the customer requirements. Despite the size of the platform, these modules have been integrated with the modularity and reconfigurability in objectives in mind. Thus, the platform can be reconfigured with different mission modules, increasing dramatically the operational flexibility and reducing the costs. The mission modules would be: Search and rescue equipment Multi sensor surveillance suite Multi weapon mounts (Stabilized turret with MG and F&F wire guided missiles) SOF (Special Operation Forces) support/SDV (Seal Delivery Vehicle) DIMENSIONS LOA (Inc platform): 17.75 m Beam, max: 4.19 m Draught: 1.20 m (still) 0.90 m (at speed) OPERATIONAL CHARACTERISTICS Maximum speed, at full load: 60+ knots (Up to 70 knots available depending on engine and configuration selection) Propulsion: Diesels, 2 x 895 kW MTU 8V2000 M93 (Other engines available) Drive system: Twin Disc ASD12B1L Steerable Arneson Surface Drives+ Rolla surface piercing propellers Range: 300+ nautical miles CAPACITIES Fuel capacity: 2.60 m3 Fresh water: 0.35 m3 Endurance: 2 days without replenishment Crew: 4 Mission crew: 10 (transportation) Sturucture: Advanced composites (DNV approved)

I cannot find any reference on the price of this boat, but considering its size and relative simplicity (although technically it is a racing boat - Arneson Surface Piercing Drives is a racing boat propulsion technology used by boat racers all over the World), it should not be prohibitively expensive for us. I think aside from Malaysia, this boat is in service in Turkey and Greece. (I cannot find the link though.) At least 4 of this boats in the ZAMBASULTA area would be a huge increase in the interception capabilities of our Navy there (normally these boats are for Coast Guard duties). |

Yes, this type of patrol craft can be likened to the older PCFs that the PN and PCG used to have for coastal patrol duties from the 60's to the 80's! If pricing is a limiting factor, we do not need the 70knots speed as it also takes its toll on human efficiency and endurance. Perhaps, the MTU engines may be downsized to either COTS machjnes like Caterpillar or similar engines. I just noticed that from the brochures depicted, it does not have a radar except for the Garmin GPS. Other minor modifications can be done to bring down the price! |

There are really fast boats in the ZAMBASULTA area, especially used by kidnappers. It would be a boon to have that speed potential in reserve just in case they have to chase some of these fast boats used by kidnappers. Agree on the radar. But I think we should also have constant Maritime surveillance of the ZAMBASULTA area to closely monitor boat movements and victor these fast interceptors when needed. |

The ASG and MILF do most of their fighting on land because they obviously lack or has no real naval power at all so buying such high tech gun boats will be useless and a total waste of money. The ASG and MILF will mostly travel on water either to transfer from one island to another or for kidnapping purposes but not to engage the Philippine Navy in a silly fight. The MILF even attempted to buy a midget submarine from North Korea so they can easily and safely evade interception from our patrol forces. |

Isn't this supposed to be the job of the Coast Guard? |

It should be but the ZAMBASULTA area of ops is not for the Coast Guard, it is for the Navy to handle at the moment since the rebels plying these area have formidable capabilities... |
