Some kind of confirmation from Friday:

Philippines began negotiations on a possible purchase of two frigates type Maestrale. The estimated value of the contract may amount to 280 million USD.

This information gave the Secretary of Defense of the Philippines, Voltaire Gazmin. Planned to buy the ships are not new, and come from a group of individuals that are currently in the equipment of the Italian Navy. If the parties reach agreement, the ships are to first be subject to renovation and modernization, and then cast in the use of Filipino armed forces. Words the Secretary Gazmina confirm media reports two months ago, which spoke of plans to sell off a large part of the Italian military arms (Italian sale, 2012-06-11). The reasons are the financial problems of the Ministry of Defence and the resulting reduction in military spending.

THE Defence Department will offer up thousands of aircraft, ships and vehicles in a fire sale to raise money for the massive new projects proposed for the next two decades.

Over the next 10 years, Defence hopes to offload up to 24 ships, 70 combat aeroplanes, 110 other aeroplanes, 120 helicopters, 600 armoured vehicles, 12,000 other vehicles and a range of communications equipment, weapons and explosive ordnance.

Among the items slated for sale are Black Hawk helicopters, which are being replaced - along with their sister model, the Sea Hawk
- by MRH-90 helicopters worth $3.7 billion. Buyers can also pick up Squirrel training helicopters. . . .

The first step in the selloff will be gauging interest in 24 ships, including HMAS Manoora - the rustbucket amphibious ship decommissioned earlier this year - Adelaide-class frigates and minehunters.

those type 42 destroyers will be useful to us, it can be assigned to guard the Malampaya platform and the other one will be guarding the exploration in the recto bank. With that, the Hamiltons will be used solely for EEZ patrol, backed up by the maestrales

Sure if we had the money for them i think it would better to upgrade our current assets with systems and weapons
