the question is tricky at this time, we don't have other info on other countries yet. but for the purpose of discussion... my 2 cents goes to Italy and SK.

If I were to decide and I have to pick for my the PN I would do the following: Destroyers - The type 42 of the Brits (4 were just recently retired) but a little bit of hesitation for I read it is costly to maintain. Still has a lot of life left. But if the Durand de la Penne of Italy is available, I would prefer for it is younger and packs a little mor firepower. France -no and Germany does not have any. Korea has the latest Aegis but super expensive. We can't afford yet. Frigates - I like the Bremen of Germany if they truly plan of retiring them because it has a lot of life left and has the two RIMs each for anti-Missile/short range interception. But I think the ASW capability of Maestrale plus its immediate availability could tilt its way. I'm not sure if the Dardo CIWS can match the RIM's of Bremens but it's 127m is way more powerful than Bremen's 76m. I believe the 2 Super Lynx's Anti ship missiles provides additional punch for the Bremens than the 2 AB212 of Maestrale. I believe the deciding factor will be instant availability of which Maestrale is already on the block whereas the Bremens is just a plan. PN needed it yesterday. The French frigates are lightly except the new ones. The Type 22's of the Brits could be lot older and have shorter life but could be cheap also. They have been having a fire sale lately. Incheon of Korea is good if we opt for new ones. Good price and well armed. Corvettes - The Minerva's of Italy are available and all of the Gepards of Germany is being phased out. But I would prefer the Korean Pohangs if available followed by the Gepards and then the Minerva's. I don't like the French's and the Brits if they have any that's worth it. Again, availability is the key and the Minerva's has an edge. Just my 3 cents. |

Sir Matrix, you've got good sourcing for me if we have a budget I'll go for the type 23/F-82 of the Brits it looks very deadly look at the firepower and the missiles system grabe! ewan lang kung kaya natin ang maint. nito, by the way nagamit kaya ito sa Falkland conflict? sorry tamad na ko mag research. |

The Pohang still? That rumored donation to the PN was a hoax! It went to Colombia and there's no plan to retire another one. The best 2nd hand warships for us will be the Italian warships not any SK torpedo target. |

In considering these ships please keep in mind that PN has limited budget, we want ship that will be patrolling our seas and not at docking area with no fuel or enough personnel to man her properly. That's why I'm weary of suggesting a gas turbine ship. |

Just like the Thai experience with their biggest warship a.k.a. oversized royal yacht. |
