Mambabatas: P500B, kailangan ng militar para 'di ma-bully ang PHL ng ibang bansa July 8, 2012 9:56am Mangangailangan ang militar ng kulang-kulang kalahating trilyong piso para masigurong hindi tayo kinakaya-kaya ng ibang bansa pagdating sa pagprotekta ng ating mga teritoryo. Ito ang pahayag ni Rep. Rodolfo Biazon, chairman ng House committee on national defense and security, sa isang ulat sa dzBB, kung saan sinabi niyang aabot sa P428 bilyon ang dapat ilaan para sa modernisasyon ng sandatahang lakas ng Pilipinas. Ayon kay Biazon, nakapag-sumite na siya ng "shopping list" ng mga kakailanganin ng militar upang mapalakas ang kakayahan nito na maipagtanggol ang bansa at hindi na ma-"bully" ng mga karatig bansa. Hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin humuhupa ang tensyon sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at Tsina sa pinag-aawayang Panatag Shoal, 124 nautical miles mula sa Zambales. Ayon kay Biazon, naaprubahan na raw ang Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Bill at naipasa na rin sa appropriations committee ng Kamara para sa paglalaan ng pondo. "The modernization program should focus on internal security to be able to address some critical areas in the country," paliwanag ni Biazon. "There is a need to recommend an amount that will give the AFP modernization a more realistic program and effectively respond to the real needs of the country's military arm," dagdag pa niya. <ginupit> Ngunit inamin ng mambabatas na haggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin malinaw kung saan maaaring makuha ang ganoong kalaking halaga para mapondohan ang modernisasyon. Iginiit ni Biazon na ang pondong makakalap ay dapat ituon sa pagpapagawa ng radar stations at military bases, pati na rin sa pagbili ng iba't ibang combat at transport equipment na gagamitin ng kasundaluhan. — LBG, GMA News GMA |
