2 die, 23 injured, including children, in Zamboanga City bombing ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines (4TH UPDATE: 1:05 a.m.) – Two people have died, and the number of the injured has climbed from 18 to 23, in the bomb explosion that rocked Zamboanga City at around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Mayor Celso Lobregat said. One of the fatalities was declared dead on arrival at the Ciudad Medical Zamboanga; the second fatallity's body was retrieved by Explosives Ordnance Demolition personnel sifting through the debris of the blast site. City Health Officer Rodel Agbulos said five of the victims, including a child, were rushed to the Ciudad Medical Zamboanga (CMZ), six to the Zamboanga Brent Hospital (ZBH) and 12 to the government-run Zamboanga City Medical Center (ZCMC). Among the six victims sent to ZBH is a two-year-old girl, whose mother was rushed to the ZCMC. Agbulos said they have yet to determine the exact number of victims since there are still others who were rescued from the explosion site at the Atilano Pension House in Barangay Canelar, Zamboanga City. City Mayor Celso Lobregat said he was informed by the budget hotel's owner that there were a total of 35 occupants at the time of the incident. Around 22 of them are from Pagadian City and family members of a man, who was set to marry on Monday a Zamboangueña in this city. The explosion that hit the second floor of one of the budget hotel's building was followed by a fire, which has since been extinguished by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel. Update: 3 dead |

Disturbing fact, last year in a seminar given by the Zamboanga City Bomb Squad the leader of the bomb squad told us that in a given year they would respond to over 20 or 30 bomb threats of which 15 or 16 are real bomb threats. Even since the 2008 MOA-AD that number has increase to the point that they have to respond to bomb threats almost every week. Not to mention the bomb threats in the whole Zamboanga Peninsula. |

Mayor Lobregat should learn from Mayor Emano on how to deal with these incidents. Cagayan de Oro has always been a target but bombs never exploded. Why? It boils down on the Mayor's capability on negotiating to protect innocent lives. |

Cagayan de Oro is primarily Visayan dominated, just like in Pagadian the Moro's do not dare attempt any hostilities from their part would mean retaliation, while here in Zamboanga the Moro's are getting aggressive. For me the people behind these bombings are the Moro's. Area;s here in Zamboanga that are Visayan dominated or pure Zamboangueno's who are not blind tend to be no-go area's for the Moro's. |

I beg to disagree. Brgys Barra, Iponan, Bulua, Macasandig, Nazaret, Puntod, Macabalan, Gusa, Cugman, Lapasan, Poblacion, Carmen, Lumbia, Canitoan, just to name several areas that are becoming Muslim dominated communities or 50% are Muslims. But why the hell they do not have problems with the lumads and visayans living on this City? Simple! because we live in harmony and we give RESPECT to each other. We do business as if religion is not an obstacle. All because Mayor Emano was a good leader. He leads with and by example and has confidence to those various leaders of various groups in the city. Giving them opportunity to lead their people in obedience to the law and respect each other. Why can't Celso Lobregat do it? |

Lobregat is a typical politician plain and simple. The man is more about style than substance. He spends more time drinking at places like the Garden Orchid Lobby Bar and positioning himself for a kodak moment than anything useful. I would also suggest he be a little more discreet about his sexual activities. There are few secrets in Zamboanga City.

Oh and if you are planning to have a function in a Zamboanga City Hotel, I would suggest you use either the Garden Orchid or Lantaka. They have "special arrangements" in place with the local power brokers that would help preclude such an unfortunate incident. |

You seem to be very familiar with our dear mayor's night activities , however I do not care of our mayor's sexual orientation. Many do not know but Mayor Celso Lobregat has a very different view of the Moro threat and that is the main concern of every social elite and concern citizen of Zamboanga.

I have friends who are from Cagayan and a relative who tells me that the reason the Moro's are line is that they know that the dominant Visayan population will retaliate. Also when you negotiate you compromise as well, it seems that your mayor is allowing the influx of Moro's in your Cagayan de Oro. |

All this so-called "respect" for the Moro's are totally BS, the Moro's living in Visayan dominated territories are well behave because they know what result would be if they try to dominate them. Here in Zamboanga where they are still a minority they act like they own the place because the people like those in Silsilah and the other inter-religious crackheads have allowed them to grow in number and they demonize those who are against the Moro/Islamist movement. As long as they want Zamboanga and the other places they view as their domain they will continue these terror bombings, unfortunately they will not be victorious because their are those who would rather die than live under the rule and potential secterian violence from the Moro's. |
