suggesting these as "much needed" weapons.

more tracked APC for safer troop insertion and extraction plus the turreted gun will provide fire suppression and cover.
take note of the closed turret. this is protection from sniper fire.

more of the tracked big guns for softening enemy defenses
tracked vehicles are better for tropical terrain.
a mix of wheeled and tracked variants must be studied and considered too.

night-capable attack choppers are like artillery and IFV but up in the air and it can be sent to the area in minutes, not hours or days.

Light Attack Aircraft provides heavier bombardment on enemy fortifications.
A good candidate is the M346 LIFT.
It's faster and quieter than the Bronco but slower than a primary fighter jet.
for medium and long term the utilization of this aircraft will be worth the investment.

M-346 weapons
Armaments are carried on nine external store stations, six of which are underwing, equipped with 1,000lb class ejector release units, and two wingtip stations for air-to-air missiles. The under-fuselage station carries avionics pods or a 300l conformal fuel tank.
The system data presentation and control functions of the stores management system use any one of the multifunction displays in both cockpits. Hands-on throttle and stick (HOTAS) controls are used to select the weapons. Weapon aiming is controlled by the central main processor, aiming data being presented to the pilots through the head-up display (HUD) or the helmet-mounted display (HMD).
"The weapons carried by the M-346 include MK82 500lb and MK83 1,000lb free-fall or retarded bombs."
The weapons carried include: MK82 500lb and MK83 1,000lb free fall or retarded bombs; rocket launchers; AIM-9 Sidewinder short-range air-to-air missiles; Raytheon AGM-65 Maverick air-to-ground missiles; MBDA (formerly Alenia) Marte MK-2A anti-ship missiles.
The external hard points can also carry the Vinten VICON-601 reconnaissance pod, laser designator pod, radar warning receiver pod and Elettronica ELT-55 electronic countermeasures pod.
For fighter trainer role, self-protection system functions and simulated tactical scenario threats are presented and monitored on the multifunction displays. For operational roles, the aircraft is fitted with a radar warning receiver, chaff and flares dispensers, and active electronic countermeasures.

AFP: We will follow orders By Alexis Romero (The Philippine Star) Updated October 25, 2011 12:00 AM Comments (77)
MANILA, Philippines - The military yesterday vowed to obey President Aquino’s order to pursue lawless elements in a series of killings of soldiers in Mindanao as it reiterated its support for peace talks with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Eduardo Oban Jr. said they would use the ceasefire mechanisms to pursue the lawless elements inside the MILF’s area of temporary stay.
“As long as they are lawless elements, we will run after them and we will pursue them wherever they are,” Oban said in a press briefing yesterday evening in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
“We have a mechanism in place and we have to respect that. We have to let our heads control our emotions,” he added.
Oban said military operations against the group of Waning Abdusalam are now being conducted in Payao, Zamboanga, Sibugay.
The military, however, is still conducting intelligence gathering in Al Barka, Basilan, where MILF fighters killed 19 soldiers.
Oban said such intelligence gathering is part of an “objective, deliberate and calibrated response.”
“In Basilan, we have to get intelligence information where these people (lawless elements) are. You just do not enter into an area. There should be good intelligence work and deliberate plan of action.”
“For now, we will have to exert and gather more intelligence before we launch calibrated and deliberate mil actions,” Oban said.
He explained that there are existing mechanisms in the ceasefire that would allow them to track down lawless elements even inside the MILF territories.
“The all-out justice is simply applying the rule of law against whoever committed a wrongdoing against the society. They should be made accountable for their deeds,” he said.
“If we have that much information as to the whereabouts of the lawless elements, we will have to pursue them.”
P10-B fund released
Meanwhile, military officials welcomed the President’s order to release P10 billion for their modernization program but clarified that this is not related to the supposed demoralization of troops over the death of 19 soldiers in Basilan.
Oban said the disbursement of the funds for capability upgrade would boost the morale of troops.
AFP spokesman Col. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. noted that the P10-billion outlay is part of the modernization program for 2010 and this year’s national budget.
“After a thorough process which involved defining branch of service requirement, among others, we go now to the next step which is the procurement process,” Burgos said.
Navy chief Vice Adm. Alexander Pama said people should not put malice into the release of funds.
“That’s far from it (Basilan clash). All Filipinos, not only the military, should be happy with this positive development. The funds would allow the military to upgrade its capabilities,” Pama told The STAR in a phone interview.
“Everybody should take this positively. We should not put color to this. This is significant because this would allow soldiers to purchase new equipment,” he said.

^^I dont know why the government cannot come up with atleast $300M (+ 20 years maintenance package) just to buy a 2 dozen $12M each AH-1F Cobras. It's just too much corruption and unwillingness by PNoy and his government to free up more revenues.

several issues were mentioned on the failed Cobra purchase.
if we cant get the Cobra for any reason, GET OTHER similar models like the Sokol Gluzsec.
by the way, this is how the AFP must act.

Muslim lawmakers to MILF: Police your ranks
by RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News Posted at 10/24/2011 9:36 PM | Updated as of 10/24/2011 9:36 PM
MANILA, Philippines - Muslim lawmakers have asked the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to hold its members accountable for possible involvement in the ambush of 19 soldiers in Basilan.
Basilan Rep. Jim Hataman-Saliman said, "Best siguro na move natin imbestigahan yung nangyari sino nagsimula sino gumawa at anong reason. "
Hataman added that one option may be the surrender of the MILF members allegedly behind the incident. "Isang possibility iyun maganda mag-usap GRP at MILF ano gagawin sa perpetrators."
"We must support pursuit operations against lawless elements, but not against the MILF. The just response to aggression must be discriminate; it must be directed only against unjust aggressors, not against innocent people caught up in a war not of their making," Lanao del Sur Rep. Pangalian Balindong said.
Tawi Tawi Rep. Nur Jaafar said Muslims do not support the actions of the perpetrators of the Basilan incident. "We don't countenance any such act that will be a violation law. The MILF is duty-bound to police ranks so this won't happen again. Let the might of the law be unleashed against people responsible."
Jaafar added there is a need to restudy the provisions of the peace agreement of 1996. "Peace process has to be reexamined so that we will be able to find the solution to long-awaited peace in Mindanao."
Maguindanao Rep. Bai Sandra Sema asked government to establish the facts behind the attack but at the same time called on the public to be sober. "We ask our brothers and sisters to look at us with compassion."

MILF warns: Calls for war fuel separatism
abs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 10/21/2011 5:21 PM | Updated as of 10/21/2011 9:23 PM
MANILA, Philippines - A top official of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) warned Friday that calls for war against the MILF will only fuel the Bangsamoro people's separatist aspirations.
Speaking to ANC, MILF vice-chairman for political affairs Ghadzali Jaafar rejected calls made by Sen. Panfilo Lacson and former President Joseph Estrada that the government should declare all-out war against the MILF.
"Alam po ninyo, itong ganitong attitude ng mga iilan sa mga Filipino leaders ang siyang nag-uudyok sa ibang mga leaders ng Bangsamoro people na humiwalay, mag-separate sa republic ng Pilipinas, sapagkat sa tingin nila kahit anong gawin nila hindi sila magugustuhan ng mga Filipino leaders. Hindi ko nilalahat," he said.
Jaafar said the MILF will cooperate with an independent investigation into the incident to determine who is at fault for the deadly encounter in Al-Barka, Basilan that killed 19 government soldiers and 5 Moro rebels.

Wadi said Muslim communities feel their voices aren't being heard. He said this, in effect, may cause division among the Muslim community and the state.
"Ito'y pagpapatingkad na ang mga pamilya ng mga sundalo lang ang may karapatang magluksa. Hindi natin alam na ang may nalagasan din ng MILF, mas mahirap ang kanilang sitwasyon kasi ang mga ito ay wala namang sweldo o benepisyo. Wala naman silang gobyerno o estado na nag-aalaga sa kanila...Sumali lang sila sa MILF kasi doon lang nila nalalabas ang kanilang mga prinsipyo," he said.

add to these, the economy, the displaced families, their livelihood, the collateral damage, ...
plus the warmongers in the military and politics who will gain from the war.
so many things to ponder at and consider. KAYA HINDI PWEDE BASTA-BASTA NA LANG ANG SABIHIN NA ALL OUT WAR.

Quo vadis, P-Noy?
But regardless of whether it’s going to be an “all-out war” or “all-out justice,” P-Noy is faced with a big problem: There will be no peace in Mindanao unless he can bring all the warring factions to the peace table. He cannot leave any group out; otherwise, there would never be peace in the region. The history of Mindanao tells us that.
In my article, “The price of peace in Mindanao” (PerryScope, August 18, 2011), I wrote: “The real challenge for Aquino would be how to bring the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) together within the framework of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). That was the spirit of the law creating ARMM.”
Ultimately, P-Noy has to deal with the biggest challenge of all: There will be no peace in Mindanao unless the issue of social and economic justice is resolved. However, even if peace were achieved, it would not last long without prosperity.
At the end of the day, P-Noy should give the military full authority and discretion to protect the soldiers on the ground and concentrate in looking for ways and means to achieve peace — and prosperity — for our Muslim brothers and sisters in Mindanao.

in this regard, we see how vital the AFP MODERNIZATION is.
we need to hold on to the peace talk to save as much lives as possible in solving the rebellion.
but the govt must capable enough to launch a quick and efficient action to neutralize those who will not obey the agreement.
we can do the peace talk like the GRP-MNLF deal during FVR's time and do a Summer 2000 campaign for those who will not support the agreement.
we have to prepare now while we have time.
more air assets, more tanks, more artillery pieces and more fully equipped troops.

Jaafar, for instance, insists that “there is an instruction to commanders that they should respect the ceasefire agreement, that they should just adopt a defensive position.” The bloodbath in Basilan, echoed soon after in Zamboanga and other parts of Mindanao, gives the lie to that statement. Either Jaafar is being devious through his teeth, or the truth is much worse: the MILF hierarchy has lost control over its foot soldiers, in which case, what point is there for the government to continue treating it as the right entity to talk peace with?
http://opinion.inquirer.net/16021/test-of-milf-resolve
Again, it is vital that we implement the modernization fully to be able to enforce the rule of law once those rouge elements will decide not to follow their leader.

You are correct that hanging one officer will not fix the problem but that is nearly irrelevant. The principle of Command Responsibility is sancrosanct. The problem here though is that the AFP doesn’t apply the principle universally.
Take for example the NPA’s attaxk on Claver in Surigao del Norte Province. The CO and EXO of the 402nd Brigade (EXO concurrently commanded TF Stinger) were relieved. However, the Division CO is not even rapped on the knuckles. This is especially noteworthy when one realises that the 4ID’s preceding CO, MGen. Mario Chan had been the fool who declared the province “Pacified” in April of 2010. Adding insult to injury he had made this declaration in Placer itself! When his successor took over he failed to properly asses his predecessor’s major decisions. Yet two good Colonels now risk losing their careers over the principle.

AFP, please no more scapegoats from now on.
punish those who are really responsible.

TACTICAL ALLIANCE between MILF, MNLF, ASG, other rebel groups and the civilians
- Quote:
-
According to a classified report, details of which were confirmed by military officers familiar with the investigation, the battle between the military and the Abu Sayyaf began less than two kilometers away from a designated safe zone called the Area of Temporary Stay (ATS) of the MILF’s 114th Base Command. The battle lasted 10 hours and moved 4.3 kilometers away from the ATS, disproving the MILF’s claims that soldiers violated the ceasefire rules.
In the first two hours, the report said the troops “were in control of the situation” until reinforcements from “the MILF ATS, MNLF community and ASG stronghold” arrived on motorcycles.
It deteriorated rapidly from that point on because of several fatal mistakes:
http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/blogs/insights/.../fiasco-basilan
This same scenario happened with the Marines. All Moslems in the area joined in.
The AFP must consider this setup at all times.
So, now, the military must not merely count the enemy strength by the single group but all of those Moslems in the area.
When this happen, air strikes and artillery fire must be given to defeat the collaboration.
