But Murad is still having doubts (about going to war) because he heard President Aquino’s statement directing military officials to conduct an investigation . . . of the Al-Barka clash,” the source said.

According to the insider, Murad is even considering the possibility that former MILF commander Ameril Umbra Kato, who was kicked out by the Muslim insurgent group, could have had a hand in the prolonged clash that also left five MILF fighters dead.

Prior to the deadly encounter, Murad received information that Kato, who founded the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), would make a scenario to provoke soldiers to launch operations against the MILF, the source said.

we were close to a full-blown war in the south.

the warmongers dont seem to realize the hardships the civilian populace will suffer.

Even before the Al-Barka encounter, the MILF leadership was already disappointed with the Aquino administration because of the failure of the first round of the peace negotiations.

“If the war in the southern part of Mindanao escalates, the MILF Central Committee is ready,” the sources quoted Murad as saying.

“A dead Moro is a brave Moro. This is the slogan of our freedom fighters. We believe that even if we die, we die fighting for our freedom,” the sources said.

If ever the situation would lead to war, the insiders said that the MILF would go to war not because of the incident that happened in Basilan province and the retaliation of the military, but because of the possibility that they could still attain what they seek—a Bangsamoro sub-state.

and this is the reason why the modernization must be speeded up.

if the peace talks bog down, we can deliver a swift and efficient end to the war... in order to contain the collateral damage and the effect to our economy.

p.s. High Tech weapons are useless without strategy, tactics, discipline, and proper and constant training.  Right now, we not only lack weapons, we lack also startegy, tactics, discipline as a fighting force and training.

im am not convinced they dont know strategy or tactic.

but with the blunder that happened lately, there is one thing they need to review and study from time to time.

DISCIPLINE. :dunno:

Meanwhile, the MILF denied it had a hand in the ambush of farm workers on Sunday in Basilan.
Rubber farm workers blamed the Abu Sayyaf for the deadly attack that killed five people and wounded eight others.

Taha Katu, the cooperative manager, said that the Abu Sayyaf was likely behind the ambush after they ignored extortion demands by the militant group.

He added that the Abu Sayyaf was demanding P50,000 a month from the cooperative.
Cabangbang said Asnawi was behind the ambush.

“This is Asnawi’s own extortion activity and outside the sanction of the MILF,” he added.
He said that Asnawi was also to blame for the killings of 19 soldiers in the brutal battle last week in Al-Barka town.

get Asnawi and all the other criminals even if they seek refuge from the MILF areas. if any MILF joins in, attack them too.

so, it is better for the MILF to deny them refuge or turn them over to the military.

Umbra Kato has a standing case too. he should be put to justice too.

That was President Aquino III speaking, during a press conference he gave on Monday afternoon, where he reiterated that there will be no “all-out-war” against the MILF.
He had earlier refused to answer what lessons were learned about the Basilan encounter, simply saying there is “an ongoing investigation” that “will decide lives, careers and perhaps even criminal liabilities of (the) people involved.”
What was he talking about?
The initial findings – THE INVESTIGATION IS STILL GOING ON – as reported in the command conference with the President and the AFP’s top brass last Friday, was that the soldiers who died shouldn’t have been sent there in the first place. They died because they were sent there unprepared and without planning, so much so that they were practically sent there to die. But that’s me talking, generalizing.
Here are the findings, according to a printed report shown to me:

http://danabatnag.files.wordpress.com/2011/10/img_36083.jpg

*The use of the students of scuba diving course to conduct combat operations was not authorized by the 1ID, WestMinCom and GHQ.
*No deliberate mission planning was done which could have provided a thorough preparation and action during exigencies. This resulted to the following:
*during the planning and preparation, appreciation of the threat situation and the terrain in the area of operation were not properly considered and analyzed. The area is within the vicinity of MILF concentration. The implications of operating in the area were not considered despite the incidents in the past. Moreover, the CO, 4th SFBN miscalculated the intervention of MILF 114th Base Command.
*the commanders failed to consider the limited capability of 4th SF Battalion Forces and the students. Forces of 4th Scout Ranger Battalion or the 32nd Infantry Battalion could have been used if operation is properly planned or coordinated.
*The U3, WestMinCom was told about the operation only at about 180700H Oct 2011. He was informed about the encounter at about 0900H.
*The lack of proper coordination from higher headquarters delayed the use of air and artillery assets. Aside from the lack of jointness in the planning process, there was no participation of other arms services and the reserve force is very small composed of one SF team only.
*There was no operation order for the operations, hence, some of the planning process and considerations were neglected.
*The use of air and artillery assets was delayed due to poor planning. With the distance of the engagement area, it took sometime before reinforcements to arrive and the time to prepare the reinforcing troops.
“4th SFBN Commander initiated and launched the operation utilizing his own forces and the students of military scuba diving course class 42-11 without the proper authorization from higher headquarters.
“The Commander of SOTF Basilan was only informed of the operation the day before the troops jumped-off from their line of departures. Though, the SOTF Commander informed them of the enemy situation in the area and warned them regarding their inconsistent assessment of the MILF presence and possible engagement with the troops, the operation was still pursued.

either the AFP is really that inept or the 19 soldiers were sacrificial lambs for an oplan to derail thje peace process by a cabal of corrupt military officers & politicians :headbang:

Some in the military and PNP are capable soldiers and policemen but largely the rest of the services are inept (especially at the top).

inept because their focus has been diverted from serving their country ....

.... to how they can milk the govt and avail the multi-million peso "pabaon".

PNoy needs to get rid of these spoiled eggs in order to save the new breed where we can find hope for a better leadership.

FARC weak? Please read a little background on FARC.  You can start with the reaidly accessible Wikipedia: htttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_Armed_Forces_of_Colombia.  At one point FARC and ELN (sister marxist group) controlled about 30%-40% of Colombia. They were among the most well funded and armed insurgent groups as they have their own coca plantations and they were aided by some of the leftists governments in South America.

You don't know what you're talikng about.

well, just as I said they don't have those life support anymore thats why they became weak and lost. While the Filipino rebels are resilient and smarter. this are all combined factors to factor in. overall you do not know what you are talking about in terms of our problem in counter insurgency, just as I said we do not need anymore foreign advisers especially your idol the Columbians. all we need is to straighten up our government and military leaders as they are more of the problem than our soldiers and marines in the field. our soldiers perform well inspite of our problems in the chain of command and being ill equipped. Most of our elite units do not have the luxury of air support and immediate reinforcements and even medevac during a firefight because of lack of logistics and corruption. your columbian idols cannot teach us anti corruption, we already know how to fight this we just need more discipline and strong leadership. the only foreign advisors we need is for high technology in weapon systems and equipment if we are going to modernized and buy modern high tech equip and gadgets to be used in combat and this will be given by our foreign vendors. Im not any further discuss this with you. Im done in this discussion.

Dude it's "Colombia."

I get your point, walang kapantay ang mga Pilipino! Magaling palagi! Pero bakit palaging talo? ... hint, it takes two to tango. Kung kurakot at walang silbi ang mga lideres, kulang naman sa training, disiplina, imahinasyon at equipments naman ang karamihan ng nasa baba. It's always a two-way affair.

Like vote buying during elections. Yes, the politicians buy votes, but voters also sell their votes? Now would you blame only the politicians? The ailment is systemic.
