its really hard now because the moro guerillas seem to have mastered the terrain in their areas of operation as normally guerillas do and the art of guerilla warfare. as you have read in news in afghanistan the taliban already shot down 2 CH 42 choppers there filled with special operators. same thing in any counter insurgency opn, the choppers will be very vulnerable in dropping reinforcements including medevacs. with rpgs and 50 cal sniper rifles can shoot down these choppers. the only thing the choppers can do is fly high and get exact location of main body of the rebels from troops on the ground and pepper them with rockets and missiles but to fly low during the heat of battle is very dangerous.

what the Army can do is only send a 7 man recon teams of SRs or SFs and find the camps or temp encampments or locate company size rebels in the jungles and then call for an airstrike. the recon teams should avoid contact with the enemy. their mission is just combat intel, locate the enemy and report to CP or HQ for air strikes. this will minimize casualties on the government forces. with the enemy mastering their territory it wil be hard for any unit to enter without being detected not knowing they are entering a trap and killing zones.

I like what you just said. Were you playing some Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or something? :armycheers:

this goverment is too soft! The govermnent has police powers which it needs to excercise which right now it isn't doing. The MILF is saying the military intruded into their territory. All I know is the Basilan is part of the Republic and the goverment has every right to chase criminals regardless of where they go. It's frustrating that the goverment is not doing anything to serve justice to the men who made the greatest sacrifice of giving up their lives. I'm starting to doubt the capability of this freaking goverment to fight for it's people.

You talk as if the MILF secessionists only started operating during this government's tenure.

The MILF started in 1978.

Many here says Marcos is the toughest president, why did the MILF survive his rule, even outliving him?

Erap ordered all out war during his administration yet the MILF is still here.

The MILF beheaded killed 14 Marines and beheaded 11 of them in 2007 during the administration of GMA, what did her government do?

Military debacles ‘avoidable’

THE Army debacle in Basilan on Tuesday will happen again and again if ground commanders continue to fail to correctly assess the field situation and setbacks are accurately reported, former Armed Forces officias told the Journal Group yesterday.

Still mourning the death of 19 Army soldiers including three officers in the hands of around 100 heavily-armed suspected Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Abu Sayyaf gunmen in Al-Barka, Basilan last Tuesday, active and retired AFP officials interviewed by the Journal Group called for a full-length investigation into scores of incidents wherein AFP personnel were massacred in Basilan and Sulu, some of them beheaded after being slain or captured.

“What a waste. Military commanders involved should be held responsible for these series of debacles or they should ‘go back to basics.’ We have learned it during our schooling, we have been taught of the Sun Tzu philosophy, know your enemy and know yourself,” a retired AFP official from the Philippine Military Academy said on condition of anonymity.

I heard from the TV5 that the reason for the Huey's not being able to land is that they were being fired upon.

the Super Cobras could have provided the needed fire suppression with its 20mm guns and rockets.

may FLIR pa laya they can sustain the support even at night. big advantage an sana ng topa kasi yun MILF bulag pero sila ay dilat na dilat.

eh anu nga sabi ng ibang planners.

overkill daw.

oh ayan OVER NA NAMAN ANG KILLED SA SUNDALO.

iba ang damage ng 20mm bullets kumpara sa 30. cal or .05 cal. maski magtago pa sa kahoy yan ay siguradong tatamaan yan.

better FULLY MODERNIZE the AFP instead. :thumb:

the MILF was fully defeated during the Summer 2000 campaign that was commanded by Gen. Angelo Reyes under the leadership of President Estrada.

the belief of the MILF that they were too strong was crushed!

their big camps were all obliterated.

many rebels who boasted they will fight to their deaths simply fled from the massacre sites and sought refuge in their homes.

Erap decided not to attack all camps and left the smaller camps as refuge to the weakened and despirited Moro rebels to emphasize that we do not want to exterminate them, but the govt cannot remain doing nothing to their vile actions.

Under Gloria's term, due to selfish and greed-inspired political policies, things began to get worse again.

Gloria under the prodding of Mike even bred a monster in Maguindanao that murdered 50 defenseless journalists and political rivals.

Going back, you can see the MILF is very much defeatable.

It only takes the right strategy and decision.

Also, a better strategy and decision to defeat them without murdering our Moro brothers.

There were lapses when they let the MILF recaptured those bases that was initially taken by the government troopers. Too much mistakes, and wasted lives and money.

those happened under Gloria.

might have been a step to start a fresh talk ...

but Mike's prodding led it to nothing but the wrong direction.

Full modernization agreed! at the same time no more peace talks if they continue with ambushes! Have the freaking Guts to declare an open war with the MILF like what Estrada did. Activate Reserve troops to be ready to evacuate civilians in the affected areas and bloody hell get some DEDICATED Attack choppers to support troop movement, re deploy our Light armor Brigade to provide armor escorts to our convoys. If Marcos was still president we would be getting cobras over basilan airspace within the hour.
