DAVAO CITY, Philippines -- Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte felt sad with the latest random drug test results showing six members of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) and two elements of the Task Force (TF) Davao positive of illegal drugs use.

Speaking at the public affairs program, “Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa”, Dutertre said it is the mayor’s call to decide the destiny of the six policemen, one soldier and one civilian active auxiliary under the TF Davao.

Duterte recalled that during his administration as city mayor, he offered free rehabilitation to policemen who were found positive of illegal drugs use.

Incidentally, the cops declined the offer, and eventually four were summarily executed and became part of the incidents linked to summary killings investigated by the Commission on Human Rights.

“When they refused to take my offer for rehabilitation at the expense of the city, eventually they were killed after going on absence without leave,” he said.

He said the mayor of Davao City needs to have guts against all forms of criminality even if they involved law enforcers.

In a separate interview, Chief Supt. Jose Jorge Corpuz, director for administration of the Police Regional Office (PRO 11), said all six policemen were disarmed and placed under the custody pending more in-depth investigation on the incident.

Major Clif Tangonan, civil-military operations of TF Davao said the military already discharged the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (Cafgu) Active Auxiliary (CAA) who was found positive for drug use while the soldier who figured in illegal drug use was placed under the custody of the 10th Infantry Division pending his investigation.
