hindi rin. tignan nyo ung sa vietman vs u.s.a.

bat nanalo cla kahit binobomba cla ng mga b-52 bombers at hightech na artillery ng america noon.

Precisely. The US had the better equiment, but the VietCong fought well.

Let us not forget that a large population also acts as a deterent to any invasory attempts. And before I get criticized, I did not say it will happen, but that it *might*. As the old saying goes: si vis pacem, para bellum.

Even if poorly equipped, the sheer number of our troops will make any nation attempting to land on our shores think twice.

If you do not have state-of-the-art equipment yet, then you must compensate.

"Justice forbids, and reason itself forbids, the State to be godless; or to adopt a line of action which would end in godlessness, namely to treat the various religions (as they call them) alike, and to bestow upon them promiscuously equal rights and privileges." (Pope Leo XIII)

One guy on the AFP's page on facebook posted something like this: He saw on Chinese Cable Network about a military analyst's review of a possible conflict in the Spratlys. The analyst said that even though the PLAN is well-equipped it will still be hard to take down the AFP because our soldiers are known for their unconventional guerrilla tactics and strategy. The proof of this is the constant 'balikatan exercises' in which the Americans are benefiting more on jungle survival and Filipinos learn to use new military equipment. So funny to learn that even the Chinese military is afraid of facing our soldiers on a hand to hand combat even with the handicap of new military hardware. I'm proud of our AFP.  :ssalute:

The chinese are not stupid, they know what the filipinos are capable of when it comes to guerilla tactics. That's actually a natural trend ever since Sun Tzu's Art of War was written when a nation's primary defense collapses then there is always the secondary defensive tactics, which is the guerilla tactics (Hit and Run tactics) where all surviving military personnels would go blend with ordinary citizens. Take example of what happened during the Philippine-American War, WWII in the philippines, Mindanao war, RP government vs CPP-NPA armed wing, Vietnam War, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars.

But i dont even think that they (chinese) ever considered that.

Remember during the Korean War, Filipino troopers has a very low number of casualties due to Filipinos learn how to deal with Chinese Commie tactics which they encounter during their campaign against the HUKs.

Where did you get that idea? The korean war have never been considered as a guerilla war, rather it was generally and widely conventional warfare were used.

we can in fact cripple China even without shooting a single bullet.

we can obliterate its population even without firing a single shot.

the modern world has devised so many ways to win the war.

but i wont tell it yet since we remain warriors for peace and we cannot be used for unreasonable killings like what happened in Norway lately.

but we will do so when it will be time to teach this greedy big bully a lesson.

the Philippines is a natural fortress, its surrounded by sea and shielded by mountains, we only need to inplace a missile shield system and its almost impenetrable.
Modernization should prioritize:

Patrol Ships with air/sub/ship detection, fast & lightly armed for Navy.
Surface Attack Aircraft with anti ship/sub attack capability for Airforce.
SAM with Radars, Close AA battery capable of shooting ground targets too for Army.
This triangle defense will work together and protect us from external threats.

Surprised that we rank higher than some countries like Australia. Paano pa kaya if our AFP gets more support from or Gov't.

Our navy and airforce needs at least US$1-2 billion each for modernization.

Some submarines would help a lot too. And a squadron or two of front line combat aircraft.

As what Sir Wiley posted somewhere here: The best defense we can put up are submarines and land-based missile defense systems. A very nice idea since we are a nation of islands and seas. And to top it all, do not underestimate a Filipino's fighting and survival instinct (sundalo man o mamamayan).

though submarine is very very expensive though, we can only get one in 2020, thats a little too late, we could just get a fleet of s-3 viking as alternative for patrol, anti-submarine, anti-ship, anti-insurgent while being protected by anti-aircraft sam batteries..

being an armchair general, i will order to re evaluate our horizon 2 modernization

Army = Long/medium range mobile SAM batteries with 300km radius of protection covering the entire country, capable of intercepting modern fighter such as su-27/30 cruise missile, stealth aircraft and inter orbit missiles or ballistic with nuclear missiles.

Airforce = Fleet of s-3 vikings for long range maritime patrol, anti-submarine, anti-ship, replacement of the ov-10. it will rely on SAM batteries for air protection.

Navy = off-shore Fast patrol boats(saygak class like).

Thats about it to protect our country... in my opinion and analysis.
