The Military was pampered by Marcos true and Correct. Though Marcos destroyed the professionalism of the Military the Professional military we had before Marcos was replaced of the dysfunctional system we have now. The Military when Marcos took over was one of a partnership of the Executive and other Politicos to that of the Military. They do favors in exchange of ranks and what not. They were also affected before Marcos came to power the AFP was given a lot of Uniforms and stuff, I should know my Grand Father is a Sgt in the PA. My lola was always complaining why the supplies that the soldiers are getting keeps on dwindling. This is in direct relation to the state of the Economy by Marcos. So even though he did not pillage the AFP. He was still in fact responsible for why the Philippine Government after him was not able to adequately provide enough founds to the AFP. Because there is no funds to begin with Marcos took it all, and yet left us a huge debt that takes precedence over the Military. The Tool used by Marcos to hold on to power for 20 years and pillage the Philippines. |

Defense contract review for multi-role vehicle purchase done in 1 month By Jaime Laude (The Philippine Star) Updated September 16, 2010 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines - The review of the P10 billion defense contract for the purchase of two Multi-Role Vessels (MRVs) from South Korea will be completed in a month’s time, a senior South Korean official said yesterday. South Korean defense attaché to the Philippines Col. Kim Yi Kon said the review of the contract to purchase, entered into by the previous defense leadership, is now underway. In his remaining weeks as defense chief, then secretary Norberto Gonzales ordered the deferment of the bidding process to favor a government-to-government acquisition for the modernization program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. The rush was largely due to Gonzales’ eagerness to strike a huge military deal with friendly states to re-equip the AFP major commands before the P330 billion AFP modernization program expires this year. http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?artic...ubCategoryId=65 Gonzales then noted that out of the staggering defense budget to purchase military hardware only P30 billion were used. Aside from the two MRVs for the Navy, bankrolled by the 2009 and 2010 AFP modernization program, Gonzales also was able to strike a deal with the Polish government to purchase eight brand-new combat utility helicopters for P3.2 billion. But when the administration of President Aquino came in, a review of these multi-billion defense contracts entered into by Gonzales was ordered, in effort to cast aside speculations that these were part of the midnight deals by the Arroyo administration. “We are not saying that something is wrong with these defense contracts which have not been perfected yet. We are just reviewing these to determine if all are aboveboard,” Defense spokesman Eduardo Batac said in an earlier interview. Kim said that once the review is completed and approved by the new defense leadership, it would take sometime before these two MRVs can be delivered to the Philippine Navy. Kim made the statement during a media briefing on the preparations for the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. The Philippines, as among the countries that fought during the Korean War, was represented by the Philippine Marines to the five-day Wonju Tattoo International Military and Marching Bands Music Festival at Gangwan-Do, South Korea. Marine spokesman Capt. Alden Gwyn Amargo said the crowd was impressed by the showmanship of the Philippine Marines, compared to the large delegation from their counterparts from Russia, Mexico, Thailand, New Zealand, Taiwan, the US and the South Korean Marines. He said the Philippine Marine band had earned admiration from their counterparts for their musical and drill performances. “Of the 11 participating military and marching bands, the Philippine Marine Corps Marine Drum Bugle Team has the least number of performers. |

Daewoo Shipbuilding Stock Gains on $1 Billion Asian Contract for Warships By Saeromi Shin and Jun Yang - Dec 15, 2010 1:17 AM CT Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., the world’s second-biggest shipyard, rose to the highest in more than two years in Seoul trading after announcing it received an order worth $1 billion. The South Korean yard received an order to build five warships for a Southeast Asian country, it said today in a statement, without naming the buyer. The contract follows the $1.1 billion order Daewoo Shipbuilding announced earlier this month for a drill ship and semi-submersible rig as a global economic recovery fuels demand for vessels. The shipbuilder climbed 3.5 percent to 33,800 won, the highest close since Aug. 29, 2008. The benchmark Kospi stock index gained 0.4 percent to 2,017.48 at the 3 p.m. close of trading in the city. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-12-15/d...r-warships.html |

The MRV's referred to in the report is no other than the Makassar class Landing Platform Docks originally designed by Daesun Shipbuilding & Engineering Co. (Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering) of South Korea for the Indonesian Navy. News report says that the Indonesian Navy bought 4 MRV Makassar Class for $ 150 million, all were delivered already. The news report says that the Philippines purportedly entered in a Php 10 billion defense contract for the purchase of 2 MRV's from South Korea. Php 10 billion is roughly $ 420 million for 2 MRV's? If the Indonesian got 4 MRV's for $ 150 million (correct me if I'm wrong please?), why are we paying $ 420 million for 2 MRV's? Does not make any sense? And even assuming arguendo that indeed the Philippine government entered into a Php 10 billion defense contract for acquisition of 2 MRV's, I suspect it will be paid some in cash thru allocations from the yearly AFP Budget for Modernization and the rest will be loans offered by the South Korean government. But this brand new MRV's acquisition from South Korea is much better than the hand-over of aging US Ships or the expensive similar MRV's offered by some European country. |

I wonder what type of missile launcher it has? Maybe if only the PN could purchase that type of missile system and place it on to PF-15. |

The LCU 2000 on this website: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landing_Craft_Utility looks very similiar to what Propmech is working on for the Phil Navy. |

the missile ssytem; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumdoksuri_class_patrol_vessel not enough though. no ASW-capability. but i believe this will be cheaper than the western builders. SUGGESTION; 1) buy the ship for hull design and frame. 2) add tube-launched SAM 3) add SONAR 4) and torpedoes or ASROC 5) add CIWS another thing is if it is as good the WHEC considering the sea conditions here. This was meant to replace the Chamsuri that were transferred to us. So, this is indeed meant to perform coastal patrol and not as a frigate. ![]() This is one of the Chamsuri-class that we got and were replaced by the Gumdoksuri-class. In this essence, we can then have the Koreans built the Gomduksuri-class in Subic or Cebu and use it for our Coastal Patrol. We can then ask for a bigger one or more powerful one for the bigger role like ASW, air defense and anti-shipping. |
