I feel the U.S. should immediately release for sale-transfer any of the decom Perry-class frigates available for FMS, as well as all applicable armament.

Also, they should sell them 10 F-16s and some T-38s....gotta beef up that air defense.

^^The US have no other choice but to help the philippines right now while their filipino government officials are still eager to give uncle sam some money in return of military hardwares. Don't wait til they loss their interest again and go back to their old ways of corrupting the modernization funds.

I wish the US Air Force will come back. The base will not just greatly enhance our defense but will speed up our own AFP modernization and the economy of the cities surrounding the facility.

With current US economy status now and their gradual pullout from Okinawa, Iraq and Afghanistan. US Forces will choose to use that privilege like "Port Call visits" or "Balikatan Exercises" as an alternative basing of its military forces in the Philippines. So far such exercises or calls would allow them to station their warships and military aircrafts for weeks.

Palawan is a good place for such port calls of US Destroyers, Frigates and submarines and this helps boost the local economy.

But if the US decides to suddenly pullout its intention to sell us their hardwares then we go to plan B and C. We don't know yet what is plan B and C if US turn-down our request due to pressure from China. Remember it was China who blocks the selling of Taiwanese F5E fighter jets to us or US will buy back the F5E jets, refurbish and resell it to us. China is really finding ways to hamper our Navy and Air Force modernization because they know that it will be a problem on their part of execute their Aggression and Annexation of islets, reefs and shoals in West Philippines Sea.

We must pursue aggressively on Self-reliance projects since we have the engineering knowledge and people on how to do it and make it succeed.

One China Policy is bullshit!

It's name connotes their real dominant character now.

G R E E D Y.

Should have been, "ALL FOR CHINA POLICY" instead.

It may be bullsh*t, but this is just the reality.

Of course, many of us would want to recognize Taiwan (the Republic of China) as the "one China" instead because it has a true democratic government, unlike the oppressive mainland People's Republic.

However, obviously Philippine, American and other countries' politicians prefer to recognize the mainland government because it has a larger economy and thus larger markets for foreign goods. That is another reason why the RP only has trade relations with the Taipei government, so as not to piss off Beijing; in fact the US embassy in Taipei is only called "the American Institute in Taiwan" to clarify its status as a quasi-official embassy and not anger Beijing. The Philippine embassy there is also called the Manila Trade Office (MTO).

Anyways, there is an older thread about Taiwan's situation and the "One-China Policy" at this other thread.

All for China Policy is similar to the old Roman sayings that "ALL ROADS Leads to ROMAN EMPIRE" and yet now its " ALL ROADS LEADS TO CHINA " policy.. Currently its happening, all products from small one like toothbrush to LED monitors & other electronics stuffs are now made in China.

They say that the only permanent in these world is CHANGE. The tides are changing Roman empire, French & British empire and now American empire they all come and go, expert and intellectuals have concluded that within this current decade of high growth China will surpass US and will be the next superpower after them. bad for us bec. China already anticipated it and now positioning itself for the future, expansion and resources are needed to fuel future growth and Spratly has lots of potential for Oil & Gas, Fisheries etc. We are so busy with our internal problem that our leaders are short sighted and lacks a vision of looking beyond of future endeavor and now we are endangering it hope it's not too late for action.

The main thing we must not lose focus on is to do what is right and what is just. It does not matter what the odds are. We know we are right because the 200 mile EEZ is legal internationally. We just do our best and prepare our best.

Like I said, I would not put too much belief in the "US hesistates" article since we have not heard anything concrete that backs that up that "hesitating" article. Personally, I have not heard anything from officers I know about this so I would describe the article as the writer's interpretation of events even though all the official pronouncements from clinton to thomas have already repeated that "shame on those doubters" lol

just because this bully is becoming unstoppable does that mean we just roll over , kneel and surrender. we just do what is right and what is just.

...and not everything is rosy for the bully:

I agree. We should rethink the so-called One China policy. If there's going to be any peaceful resolution, it should be one which is favorable for us for a change. By any definition of international law, the Spratly's and Paracel islands belong to us. We should offer favorable terms to US-based oil exploration companies, that should be incentive enough for the US to support our lawful claims to our territories.

In regards to procuring military equipment, imo, what we need are front-line combat aircraft, which we can source from several countries, not necessarily US made. Regarding naval ships, as I've opined in another thread, we can make our own fast missile boats. What we need is the weaponry that will be mounted on them.

Correction: The Spratleys is ours while the Paracels is Vietnams.

The One China Policy is a term to dislodge Taiwan's Nationalist Government from being recognized as a legitimate national government. For PROC, it is the Communist Party of mainland China that is the legitimate government that represents the Chinese people. Taiwan is just a renegade province to them. In this system, PROC effectively sealed off Taiwan's membership to the UN as a Nation because there is only ONE CHINA and that is them (the commies).

60% of US submarine fleet are now positioned and deployed around the pacific near philippine sea, more warships are now being positioned there ready to pounce on china once they make that one mistake. A lot of americans are now blaming china's trade policies, atleast that's what i heard and seen last nite from this TV report.

China’s reliance on exports and a controlled currency for growth, for instance, will no longer work if US consumers are engaged in a chronic saving spree, as I believe they will be. Chinese export growth, which averaged 21 percent per year in the last decade, is bound to suffer.

The country’s seemingly inexhaustible pool of cheap labor is expected to peak in 2014, in part due to its rigid one-child policy. By some estimates, ample labor has boosted GDP growth by 1.8 percentage points annually since the late 1970s, but the contraction of the working-age population will reduce growth by 0.7 percentage points by 2030.

Wages are already rising, and even Chinese manufacturers are moving production to Vietnam and Pakistan, where pay levels are a third of China’s. Some factory workers have seen wage increases of 20 percent to 30 percent in the last year or so, with those producing goods for foreign companies seeing especially large boosts. At the same time, better conditions in rural areas have reduced the flow of cheap labor into coastal cities.

hahahaha

I was right.

The US together with EU and UK can deliver a counter-punch.

They can crush China's economy by dumping its exports and moving their investments to Africa, South East Asia, the Middle East, South America and anywhere but the Big Bully China.

When that happens, the economy of China will collapse and its finances even it if has 2 trillion US dollars in reserve would simply be exhausted because of the massive operational cost it has to sustain. That includes its Armed Forces and infrastructure and govt bureaucracy.

It will send its people to another starvation.

The hardest problem is that it's wages are starting to lose competitiveness. They are now beginning to outsource production in Vietnam and Pakistan.

China can only save itself if it will maintain good relations with its neighbors. Its neighbors will somehow support the healthy flow of economic trade.

Kidding aside, im looking at driving China to confront the US by stimulating the war in the Spratly's.

We can even sink their fishing vessels and then blame China for the aggression. Then we can ask the US and the world to denounce China's bullying and enforce a trade embargo.
