The deployment of the Humabon to West Philippine Sea is just part a normal routine to patrol and secure our EEZ territories particularly Scarborough shoal and nearby areas. I think the only best solution is to upgrade our AFP's capabilities particularly the PAF and PN to a FORMIDABLE force so that we can gain respect from other Countries, most importantly for them to be able to secure and protect our interests and sovereignty of the Country. If you ask me External Defence should always come first, making sure that every thing is close or up to standard and in full working order without any GAPs before any Major AFP Modernization Program is to take place. Even the US had been telling us that we really have to spend and modernize our AFP, our MDT with the US if you think about it only favours us because of our AFP's incapacity, making it unfair on their part.. "it takes two to tanggo" with this MDT, it's not all the time the US will come and help us, we should really learn to be able to step up to the plate for ourselves... We should really give priority on Modernizing our AFP's capabilities and do this one for ourselves and for the Country. |

I agree that we should constantly patrol these waters and within our EEZ of 200 miles and not allowing any foreign fishing boats to enter those waters nor plant any markers, steel posts or floating gadgets. Rajah Humabon and other PN boats has been patrolling these waters since mid 60s where no other claimants like Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei & China exists except for Taiwan who only owns just one while we have 8 islands claimed. Also we need to add more ships like OPV to patrol these territories and continue the Oil and Gas exploration on REED Bank which is not part of Spratly Islands as this Reed Bank in West Philippines Sea is our Territorial Waters surrounding our country. We need to acquire MRF to boost our defense capabilities... |

well how many islets that we still have that are unoccupied in KIG?, we need to occupy those islets and deploy some troops there. this is one of effective way to prevent incursions, aside form naval patrols, those islets can also be used as staging areas and port calls for our navy and airforce and local fishermen. any unoccupied islet will soon be seize by China or Vietnam or any other claimants making matters worst. what are we waiting for. We can start now by telling our troops deployed there to first dig in their bankers and fox holes and live in tents while waiting for seabees and combat engineers to built the structures needed. these is good training for them. and this deployment will be on rotation every 2 to 3 months. |

A modern navy or not. It doesn't matter if we send our newest ships, our oldest ships, or even just a tug boat armed with a 50 cal. machine gun, to exercise or sovereignty over the Spratlys or the Mischief reefs. We should always maintain our presence in the area, just to show everybody that we mean business. We should not lose by default. Back in the fifties up to the seventies, the tiny Icelandic navy routinely clashed with the much superior British Navy, in what was called the Cod Wars. The Icelandic patrol boats were determined to drive off British trawlers from Iceland's EEZ, often going against much superior British warships escorting these fishing boats. These skirmishes resulted in ramming from the aggressive trawlers, who didn't recognize Iceland's Territorial waters. This often forced the Icelandic patrol boats to fire upon the encroaching fishing boats, and a standoff with British warships. In escalation, the British deployed 22 navy vessels to protect their fishing fleet, against just 4 Icelandic patrol boats. Eventually, with the help of diplomatic maneuvering, the British government agreed to have its fishermen stay outside Iceland's 200 nautical mile (370 km) exclusion zone. So, it doesn't matter what state our navy is in. so long as we are determined to protect what is ours with what we have, we will gain respect. That is how to handle a bully. |

Magbaon na lang ng 90mm Recoiless Rifles and 81mm Mortars just in case we need more firepower.. Ayan marami na yan at magsama na rin ng Marines Snipers armed with M14s or SWAG/ Navy Seals. |

I think it was the vietnamese boat-people who took refuge with some of the islands in early 70's, on their way to palawan and malaysia. I also think the reason why they found those southern spratly islands away from vietnam, because some of their boats were pushed southward by the current and wind when they discovered them. And then when they were sent home by the government of the philippines in the early 1990's, they told their communist government about it. The rest is history.
