The Philippines is sending its biggest warship to the Scarborough shoal in the West Philippine Sea after China sent its biggest civilian patrol ship to the disputed waters.

Radio Australia's reporter in Manila, Shirley Escalante, says the BRP Rajah Humabon will be sent to the Philippines' southwestern border, near the disputed Spratly Islands.

Navy chief Vice Admiral Alexander Pama says the warship will guard against intrusions in Philippine waters and "poaching".

Naniniguro lang.... Mahirap na kasi this Chinese Ship might be unarmed from the outside but who knows what inside of it... The sailors there could be armed with AK47 and RPG / ManPADs. Also Chinese ship always resort to RAMMING opposing ships like what 2 Chinese ships did before to the Rajah Humabon and PN replied to Firing its guns.

On 2 February 2000, the Rajah Humabon fired warning shots at two Chinese fishing boats near Scarborough Shoal. According to Navy chief Vice Admiral Luisito Fernandez, the Rajah Humabon was forced to fire warning shots to avert a collision with two Chinese fishing boats and only after the Chinese boats refused to respond to radio contact, loudspeaker, sirens, and flashing lights.[16]

LOL...the Humabon will have a greater chance of cracking open its old hull by itself rather than by gunfire from Chinese patrol ships.

Right! And this Chinese maritime patrol ship might be using vertical missile launch tubes (VLS) which is a favorite launch system of the Russians?
