Bartolome gets three stars rank
By AARON B. RECUENCO
June 6, 2011, 7:45pm
MANILA, Philippines — The number four-man of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been promoted to the next rank, making him the first among his class at the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class 1980 to become a three-star general.

From the rank of Director (two-star and equivalent to major general in the military), Nicanor Bartolome now holds the rank of Deputy Director General (equivalent to Lieutenant General in the military) as he officially donned Monday the three-star rank on his shoulders.

With his promotion Bartolome, currently the chief of the Directorial Staff of the PNP, is said to be inching closer to be the next PNP Chief when Director General Raul Bacalzo retires in September this year.

He, however, would not comment on the issue that he is the anointed one.

“We in the PNP is just doing our job, we work on a daily basis. Our attention should be on public service and not on any kind of position,” said Bartolome, who held the leadership of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) for more than six months.

The official also denied allegations that his promotion has something to do with the PMA Class 1980 adopting two sisters of President Aquino, stressing that his promotion was based on merits and qualifications.
