im a bit apprehensive with the planned acquiisition of WMECs. they are smaller therefore more susceptible to hull defect, given they are old and had been patrolling blue waters for the USCG. If PN do push thru w/ the acquisition of WMECs, IMO, they will be better off patrolling inside the archipelago. Let the WHECs or brand new OPVs do the patrolling ouside.

hello Kfir sorry but i dont have all the inside info. I can only share what is shared with me for public consumption. there are 2 possible scenarios here: 1.) Cusia is a civilian and unless he had been careful about what he tells the press , the 8 cutters could be referring to 8 ships in general which means something like ---> 3 MRVs + 3 WHECs + 2 OPVs. The 2 OPVs and 3 MRVs is included in the 2012 to 2016 plan while the 3 WHECs is in the 2011 plan 2.) The other scenario is like this: Cuisia really knows what he is talking about , and he really means 8 cutters. The 210 foot Reliance class WMECs wont be decommissioned till 2020 to 2026. while the longer 270 foot Famous class WMECs will not be decommissioned till 2026 to 2029 so that leaves them out. However , the 110 foot class will be decommisioned between 2011 to 2022 so its possible that this 110 foot class is a candidate for transfer. However, commonsense indicates the PN will not interested in the 110 foot class unless its free as in free-free hehe. why ? the PKMs from south korea are longer at 37 meters and faster plus its more heavily armed and cheap as in free so I would imagine the PN would rather get the PKM than the USCG 110 footer, hindi ba ? Additionally, it is known that what the navy urgently needs are ships that can guard the malampaya in high sea states(big waves) and guard against giant enemies salivating over reed bank - you know who they are. On the other hand, these 110 footers would be ideal for the philippine coast guard since they need more patrol boats. Then there are the remaining Cyclone class but they are not cutters, who knows............. haha Therefore, my prophecy (dont hang me kung palpak -LOL) is that all 8 cutters will be WHEC hamiltons so we will have 8 Filipino "battleships" in 5 years time. reference: http://navalengineers.net/Proceedings/FMMS...ago_McClure.pdf |

I strongly beleive that it will be 8 WHECs with the USCGC Jarvis and USCGC Rush coming soon in Philippine Navy colors! All Hamilton-class cutters are scheduled to be replaced as soon as all 8 National Security Cutters are completed, so far there is already 4 in service. |

^^Speaking of this Hamilton Class cutters, i found more possible ways to install some missile launchers on it's port sides. I was playing Halo Reach (XBOX360) and forged almost the exact look-alike ship for my Custom Games... I wish i could post the photo here and im sure you guys gonna like it. This one though i extended the ship with another landing pad so it could accomodate 2 Falcons. The launchers are facing afront just like those posted info and photos of russian made missile corvettes by Marschall.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the Harpoons were removed on Mellon. But look at the bright side: we know that the ex-Hamilton now named Gregorio del Pilar is a proven platform that will accommodate a combat-proven missile system. So regardless if it's a second-hand ship, it is still a got buy. |

Tell that to the Chinese PLA-N Warship Frigate 560 fired at Filipino Fishermen on their boats just near to the Palawan Island at the Jackson Atoll.. And Philippine Navy will send BRP Gregorio Del Pilar over there armed with only a 76mm Rapid Fire Gun!.. And Nothing more.. While the Chinese Warship Frigate 560 is armed with 100mm gun, SAMs, Antiship Missile C-208 and Torpedoes that can simply sink our very own newly acquired BRP Gregorio Del Pilar with pennant number PF-15.. |

unless the PLA-N is crazy enough to start a catastrophe in the Spartley Islands then yeah go ahead and shoot! And you know what, call me evil and merciless, but I wished Chinese Warship 560 should have murdered our firshermen out there and sunk them and not just scared the frak out of them. I'm sure if that happened, it'll trigger Philippines into "arms deal galore" everywhere, left and right! Magka utang-utang na basta makabili ng armas panlaban sa China with nationwide propaganda calling all citizen to arms for Philippine survival ala KKK "Sugod mga Kapatid! Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!" That would be ever arm-chair general cum warmongers wish. BTT: again a measly 1.2 Billion pesos whose fund didnt even came from DND but from DoE and your expecting ASM, ASW, SAM on PF-15? common enough with the mentality of "Expecting Main Battle Tank for a price of a jeepney". It's been explained a millions time how the PN will greatly benefit from the ex-Hamilton even without the missiles. Now if can't help it but just rant, rant, rant, whine whine and whine like it's some daily dose of vitamin, don't rant on the Navy. Dont rant on the AFP for that matter. Rant at frakking hypocrite Ramos. Read here: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/12084/philipp...s-military-gear |
