Just when we needed the US bases. I believe the leftists and Anti-VFA won't say anything about this.

A military source said that two OV-10 Broncos were on a routine reconnaissance patrol over the Kalayaan Islands when two Chinese MIG-29 Fulcrums appeared and buzzed over the two PAF planes.

China has Su27s! Not MiG29s. The press with their usual "painstaking attention to detail," folks.

Redhatch, it's not the bases that we need. It's the tools.

Dear Generals, Sir
Pls. request now for the RFI and push to initiate the bidding process. Tender jet fighters has already been submitted. Pls push the congress for the bid fund to initiate project jet fighter procurement. Pls give us the tools to protect the sovereignty of our nation...of your nation.

^ sir diyan tayo nadadali sa bidding process which will take forever. We need the tools NOW. hindi na deterrent ang kailangan natin, sabi nga ng comments sa Philippine Star, Imagine nasa kamay na ng Chinese pilots ang ulo ng mga piloto natin, without even their knowledge. That's really a handicap.

Bidding is usually tainted with corruption, we could build our own instead of buying second hand materiel.

He said if verified, the AFP would not view the incident as an act of bullying or provocation on the part of the Chinese, saying that the matter could be addressed through diplomatic channels.

meaning: we cannot do anything about it and just try to talk, talk and talk.

He said the air patrols are intended to protect the nation’s territorial integrity as well as its maritime resources against violators of the country’s maritime laws.

This line is so cynical, it's unbealievable! Two OV-10 bombers supposedly undertaking flights to secure Philippine territory are bullied by Chinese jets within Philippine territory. :drunk:

This is the sad state of our AFP, particularly our Air Force. The senators who booted out the US bases 20 years ago should've realized that this might happen.

He added that at that distance, there was no easy way to ascertain if the aircraft was indeed Chinese.

For all we know, it could be have really been MiG-29 Fulcrums - from another neighbour, not China. They could have been Vietnamese?

The Armed Forces on Thursday said it was validating reports that Chinese jet fighters had entered the country’s airspace around the disputed Spratly chain near Palawan but conceded it had no capability to detect and intercept the alleged intrusions.
AFP Chief Lt. Gen. Eduardo Oban said the military was checking the intelligence reports, but admitted that the AFP does not have the capability to detect or monitor such intrusions, and even if it does, it has no power to intercept them anyway.
“In terms of capability, No. 1, we don’t actually have the detection and monitoring capability, we don’t have radars to check if indeed they intruded into our airspace,” he said.
“No. 2, if indeed we have that capability, we need interdiction. We also have no capability to interdict or to intercept, which is why the first option is to lodge a diplomatic protest,” said Oban, who spoke at a Communication and News Exchange Forum sponsored by the Philippine Information Agency.

Vietnam is more concerned in the Spratley area and not Reed bank because maybe they know that it's well within our EEZ territory and very close to PALAWAN.

Our neighboring countries who are claimants to the islets in Spratlys have shown us that they can Intrude inside our Airspace without being challenge. Actually they can impose No-Fly Zone here if they want to just to ensure that PAF wont send any aircrafts.
