Doomed by geography, the archipelago country is highly prone to natural disasters all year long and a Hospital Ship for the PN will go a long way in times like this by providing immediate medical aid and support to local communities impacted by the calamity... :armycool:

The AFP or PCG then should look for Negros Navigation, they have similar passenger ships like that and im sure if they have the will, they can buy and convert one of their ships into a hospital ship.

If my memory is right, the interim or stop-gap hospital ship of the PN is the BRP Pagasa formerly the BRP Ang Pangulo. it also serves other missions such as going to disaster areas. this was the reason why its name was changed to BRP Pagasa so it can be a multi-mission alyas hospital ship. google it.

It is armed with one 20mm gun on the ship bow(front), two 20mm guns on the superstructure and maybe one or two guns in the Aft(rear). it also has a helicopter deck.

you can see the blue gunshield of the 20mm on the bow and the 20mm gun covered in gray near the funnel on the superstructure here:

Can hospital ships be armed with CIWS for defense purposes?

Like Armed Ambulances according to the Geneva convention all medical personnel and vehicles should not be armed and can not be targeted because there propose is to aid or transport persons in need of medical assistance. so Hospital ships also count.

That sucks. What if some stupid terrorrists/pirates attack a hospital ship? I think they should start reconsidering that geneva convention law, atleast for a hospital ships and other civilian passenger ships too and oil tankers/cargo ships. This way, people can save more money compared with calling for some military help specially when they are hundred of miles away from shore.

So that means BRP Pagasa has violated that rule because it is an armed hospital and rescue ship! Well for security and defense purposes of a hospital ship, I think it can carry armed guards equipped with high caliber weapons or it should be escorted by a warship?

siguro , I am mistaken, maybe the BRP Pagasa is more like a makeshift "poor man's" MRV(multimission ship) sa tagalog - ibat ibang mission :lollol: because usually hospital ships have a big red cross painted on their hull. don't mind me , Im getting old.
