Can anyone identify this transport ship ? look at the right side of the photo. it looks like a modified LCU or LCT. there seems to be a ramp or space in the rear of this ship for a small RHIB ? and the front has 2 gun tubs for what is presumably 20mm or 40mm guns ? very interesting. hope someone can shed light on this. by the way , the white rectangle on the right side appears to be the 5 inch gun turret of the Barnegat class frigate. I wonder if it still fires haha: http://s1130.photobucket.com/albums/m527/a...t=DSC00064.jpg& from photobucket acct of Albals. |

BRP Tausug, ex US Navy LCT Mark 6, the ramp is not a modification but inherent in the original design of Mark 6s. |

thanks for the responses. so was the Tausug modified ? the photo I posted shows 2 guntubs at the front and guntubs at the rear too ! the supestructure seems modified. the hull specially amidships and the rear seems different. if you enlarge the photo in photoshop or some photo editing software you will see what i mean. the photos you shared does not show any guntub and the superstructure and hull seems to be different unless my eyes are going bad. thanks for any other inputs |

From: http://www.navsource.org/archives/10/18/18idx.htm LCTs were built in two models. The MK5 was 112 foot, 32 feet 9 inches in length with a beam 32 feet, a displacement of 286 tons and a crew of 13. The MK5 had a bow ramp only in contrast to the MK6 which had both a bow and stern ramp and was 119 feet long with a beam of 32 feet and a displacement of 284 tons with a crew of 12. LCTs were the Navys all purpose general duty vessel. Besides carrying tanks ashore they were used for many different purposes. Some were converted and equiped with guns, others with rockets, while still others served as minesweepers. 26 MK5s were designated LCT(A), armored. Armor was added to these LCTs to allow them to go into the Normandy beachhead with the fire power of two tanks. At wars end all MK5s were disposed of while the MK6s were redesignated as Utility Landing Ship LSU in 1949 and redesignated Landing Craft Utility LCU, 15 April 1956. |

the rear ramp allows the mark 6 to become a bridge or another mark 6 can lower its bow ramp into the docked mark 6's rear ramp thus saving beachhead or docking space. |
