MANILA, Philippines – Police operatives in Metro Manila will now be using Taser, a non lethal electroshock weapon, in its drive against criminalities in the area.

This after the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) concluded the training of its operatives in the use of Taser today, according to NCRPO police Chief Nicanor Bartolome.

Nearly 40 police officers from NCRPO’s five police districts attended the three-day training. They will in turn train other officers in the field in the use of the device.

The training was initiated after the Philippine National Police bought 100 units of Taser X26 last Feb. 11.

“The use of non-lethal weapon in serving our stakeholders is our way of being true to our calling that we are protectors of lives,” said Bartolome.

Taser X26 deployed by the PNP

Overview

The TASER X26 is our premier law enforcement electronic control device. The TASER X26 ECD uses a replaceable TASER cartridge containing a compressed nitrogen propulsion system to deploy two small probes that are attached to the TASER X26 ECD by insulated wires. The TASER X26 ECD transmits NMI impulses through these wires into the remote target at distances from direct contact up to 35 feet (10.6 meters). The TASER X26 ECD is transforming law enforcement and becoming a vital tool for patrol level law enforcement officers around the world.

Advanced Features

• 60% smaller in size and weight than the ADVANCED TASER M26 ECD
• Greater incapacitating power than the ADVANCED TASER M26 ECD
• Optimized for full-time carry on the duty belt
• Software upgradable
• Integrated laser sight with low intensity lights
• Central Information Display (CID) indicates countdown timer during an activation, battery level and warranty information

Yes, much better than the batuta.

More should be procured by the PNP.

A step up for PNP's street law enforcement capability.

Looked for articles about the acquisition cost for this batch of 100 X26s but didn't find any, not even on the PNP official website.

But this site sells the X26 from a low of $809.95 to a high of $814.95. The lower price is probably for bulk purchases.

Not exactly non-lethal..

In some cases, Tasers can kill, company warns

TAMPA - Taser International, maker of the controversial stun guns used by thousands of law enforcement agencies from Tampa Bay to London, has issued a training bulletin that warns repeated blasts of the Taser can "impair breathing and respiration."

For subjects in a state known as excited delirium, repeated or prolonged stuns with the Taser can contribute to "significant and potentially fatal health risks," according to a recent posting on Taser International's Web site.

Apparently it isn't non-lethal all the time...

Man dies after being shocked with a stun gun
