MILF bares plan of AFP to put up frontline naval base in Sulu Sunday, 23 January 2011 16:02 The Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has reported that in line with the government's strategic plan to militarize Mindanao and to protect the booming oil industry in the Sulu Sea, the Philippine Navy headed by Admiral Alex Pama will put up a naval base in Maimbung, Sulu, A report posted on the MILF's official website (Luwaran.com), disclosed that the social preparation has been in place after the naval officer had coordinated with local government in Sulu and the Police Provincial Director. It said the provincial government of Sulu headed by Gov. Abdusakur Tan as well as the Sulu Provincial Police Office headed by Sr. Supt. Antonio Frea, had already agreed to the plan in principle. "The base, it was also learned, also serves as frontline defense line to contain the Abu Sayyaf and its alleged ally, the Jemaah Islamiyah, and the threat posed by the Spratly Island’s controversy," the report said. Admiral Pama was a former chief of Naval Force Western Mindanao prior to his promotion and head of the Philippine Navy. He is familiar with the situation in the Sulu Sea as well as some adjacent island in the Moro Gulf. According to MILF, since the martial law regime of late Dictator Ferdinand E Marcos until now, the province of Sulu and Basilan are militarily concentrated by the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP). Quoting one scholar in Jolo, whose masterpiece is the study of the political situation in the island provinces, the scholar described the move as an effort to promote war instead of peace. It cited, aside from this additional military infrastructure, the modernization plan and the deployment of troops in Mindanao especially Basilan, Maguindanao, and Lanao del Sur where the MILF is strong. “This militarization will not stop the Moros from asserting their rights over their homeland,” the scholar explained. http://www.zamboangatoday.ph/index.php/new...se-in-sulu.html |

the PN has a base for many many years at batu-batu in tawitawi , and another one in zamboanga city so putting up another one in maimbung, sulu will indeed solidify PN control of the sealanes there. thats good news then ! |

Well, the AFP is the duly recognized security organization for the Republic of the Philippines, I don't think it's not an issue where they want to set-up camp to guard our sovereignty. |

actually mindanao should be heavily militarized especially, Sulu, Tawi Tawi, Davao, Cagayan De Oro and Basilan and Cotobato. Im sure there are more oil reserves in the region waiting to be tapped. If there is oil in Indonesia and Brunei then the vein should run thru Mindanao as there is already oil in Palawan. The AFP should also built a air naval station in Sulu or Tawi Tawi and some Marine bases. |

if it will help protect the people and the economy then we must put that up. for the critics, it's just a normal reaction. nothing outweighs a goal to stablize the peace situation and spur economic growth for the benefit of the majority AND NOT JUST THROW IT TO THE GREEDY FEW WHO DREAMS TO BE THE NEXT SULTAN OF BRUNEI. war they want, hell on earth will be casted upon them! |

A favorite word of Lefties and other critics of the AFP for anything the AFP does not within their comfort zones like buy toys with money better spent on basic services or Pork or building bases in their turf. They'd even say men and women in the uniform of the AFP sending them relief goods and bailing them out of disaster-hit areas is militarization. |
