MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) -- A chief of police in a station in central Philippines was shot to death by his colleague late yesterday, police said today.

Police Inspector Bernardo Castro, deputy police chief of Talavera Police Station in Nueva Ecija province shot the station's police chief Police Supt. Ricardo Dayag at around 8:55 p.m. Saturday in front of the police station, said Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr.

The suspect was allegedly under the influence of liquor when he committed the crime.

Dayag, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds, was brought to a nearby hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.

Castro was arrested and investigation was ongoing.

It's really a big problem to have mongrels with firearms. Apart from being drunk, there might be some serious reasons or motive behind the shooting that only straightforward investigation can ferret it out. The seriousness of the incident tells us that there exist either corruption or mismanagement in that police station.

The deputy's alibi while interviewed on TV: His gun accidentally discharged during the heated verbal argument between him and his superior.

Poor excuse me thinks.
