"No sacrifice is too great in the service of freedom." “As long as we are not willing to provide an adequate, suitable and capable defense for this country, we will be oppressed, demeaned and dishonored. Phil Navy to attend Defence IQ Amphibious Operations Conference probably in preparation for the programmed acquisition of multirole amphibious assault vessel: =============== 07:59 GMT, January 12, 2011 LONDON | In spite of global budgetary cutbacks, the large amphibious vessels market looks as if it is set to reach $23.3 billion over the next 10 years. As traditional naval assaults from the sea become increasingly unsuited to modern combat and humanitarian missions, the necessity for multi-role amphibious ships with vertical-assault manoeuvre capability has sparked a series of new-build and refit amphibious ship programmes around the globe. In order to understand how the amphibious market is evolving, Defence IQ is bringing together senior representatives from navies around the world including from the US Navy, Royal Navy, Royal Netherlands Navy, Spanish Navy, Philippine Navy and Swedish Navy. The conference comes during a time when navies globally are investing in new builds and refits in an endeavour to increase the importance of aviation-capable amphibious vessels. One reason for this is the demand for vessels with vertical-manoeuvre capability, which enables amphibious ships to deliver troops and equipment much closer to their objectives and with greater security. Recent high profile amphibious vessel contracts have included the purchase of two French Mistral-class amphibious assault vessels in a deal estimated to be worth over $1 billion. It was recently announced that the Royal Navy’s HMS Ocean would be spared from spending cuts as it functions as the UK’s best landing helicopter dock (LHD). The Spanish Navy’s fully-fledged amphibious assault Spanish Strategic Projection ship is expected to enter service within six months and the Turkish Navy are undergoing a modernisation programme that will see a new generation of Landing Ship Tanks (LSTs). Amphibious Operations 2011, which will be held in London on the 8th-9th March 2011, will bring together naval forces from all over the globe to discuss how expeditionary forces can meet the demand for multi-role amphibious vehicles during combat and humanitarian missions. :aberet: |

The PN participation means its preparing for the procurement and eventual operation of the MRV. I believe the PN is keen on proceeding with the acquisition despite problems with funding. I hope the President will follow through with his pledge to support the Navy's planned acquisitions.

It was mentioned in Wikipedia (I don't know the source) and from Timawa.net |
If you don't want a modern and capable AFP, you might want to get the f*ck off the Philippines because you don't deserve to be a Filipino that's why!

The LCU project is a locally built vessel that will be formally turnover to the PN later this year if everything is on time at a cost of almost P190,000,000.00 for 1 unit...

just hope and pray that 190,000,000 is the true price of that vessel but given the history of these thieving PMA graduates, the possibility is high that they have already pocketed 50,000,000 of that amount.
