Comment: Vessels built at Babcock Engineering Services, Rosyth, and FBMA Babcock Marine, Cebu, Philippines (Yare, Towy and Spey). All delivered by 11 July 2003. Of aluminium alloy construction, the design is an adaptation of FBM Babcock Marine's Protector class patrol vessel. The order for the craft followed a contract awarded to MoD and to Smit International for provision of marine support to aircrew training, high speed marine target towing and recovery of air-sea rescue apparatus. The craft have an after docking well for a daughter craft. Based at Buckie (Dee), Blyth (Don), Great Yarmouth (Yare), Pembroke Dock (Towy) and Plymouth (Spey and Dart). Smit Dart is employed as a passenger craft. Tamar (Plymouth) and Cymyran (Holyhead) are similar second-hand craft used for passengers.
