MANILA, Philippines -- A sophomore cadet died of head injury on August 21 inside the Philippine Military Academy, the country's premier military school, in Baguio City, the Armed Forces of the Philippines reported on Thursday.

Quoting a report from the PMA headquarters, the AFP said that Cadet 2CL Anthony M. Pastores, a member of Class 2012, suffered an acute subdural hemorrhage, which led to his death at the St. Louis University hospital.

According to online medical reports, a subdural hematoma or subdural hemorrhage is a form of traumatic brain injury usually resulting from tears in veins that cross the subdural space. Subdural hematomas are often life-threatening when acute, but chronic subdural hematomas are usually not deadly if treated.

Initial investigation showed that Pastores was found lying near the female restroom at the Covered Court inside the academy at about 6 p.m. of August 19 after his boxing bout at 4:45 p.m. in preparation for the conduct of the Intramurals of the Cadet Corps.

Boxing... the sport Filipinos are very proud of. Kids even children are being encourage to take up. Because of such danger, I've read that in some countries, this sport is banned especially for young people.
