PNP uses poem to spread idea to kids that cops are friends

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged Monday parents not to use policemen as virtual scarecrows for their kids, saying it does not only help in disciplining their children but also contributes in tarnishing the image of the police organization.

In line with this, a poetry-reading program emphasizing that policemen are friends and persons to be scared of will be launched nationwide in order to correct the negative perception of children on policemen, said Chief Supt. Nicanor Bartolome, director of the PNP-Police Community Relations Group (PCRG).

“We have been observing that whenever children become naughty, some of their parents would say that they would ask a policeman to arrest them. So at a very young age, these children have started to develop negative perceptions about the police,” said Bartolome in an interview.

“We want to correct this, we would like to point out that policemen are friendly and will always be there to help the children and the people in times of trouble,” he added.

Bartolome said they will be using a poem written by one of the PCRG personnel in a series of poetry-reading sessions to be held nationwide, concentrating on Grades 1 to 3 pupils in both private and public schools.

The official said they are going to coordinate with the Department of Education (DepEd) this week in order to ask for the agency’s approval and guidance regarding this program.

On the other side of the coin, children who have learned to get scared of the police will also learn to follow the law as it is a continuing process of parents to teach their children to respect the police and the law as they grow up.

The best thing that a cop can do is to have COURAGE to tell his officer that receiving "kotong" is bad.

A cop and his officer both knew that receiving a "kutong" is detrimental to their sworn job. They are no longer babies to tell each other.

So why are they doing it on a systemic basis?

Why would you ask me ? You are already out of the topic I warn you. If you know of some cops to be doing this, why would you not ask them ? Your reply is utterly personal and confrontational. How would you explain that ?

It was never my intention to be personal and confrontational as to you. Firstly, I don't know you. How could I attack someone I don't know?I only would like to thresh out this matter of corruption, which appears to be the very problem of this country and so befits a thorough discussion in a respectable forum such as yours

If you want to continue to discuss about corruption in the PNP, choose the appropriate thread, and focus on the issue itself then inject a constructive and sensible discussion. I know that you have this ability that can make you an asset to this forum so as to avoid somebody to accidentally blow up your cover.
