Former QC police chief is new NBI director abs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 07/08/2010 11:22 PM | Updated as of 07/08/2010 11:51 PM MANILA, Philippines - Former police director Magtanggol Gatdula has been named the new chief of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. announced the change at a dinner party with Malacaņang Press Corps Thursday night. Gatdula will take over from NBI director Nestor Mantaring. Gatdula retired from the police force June 3 after being head of the Directorate for Information, Communications, and Technology Management of the Philippine National Police (PNP). Prior to this, he was Quezon City police chief from 2006 to 2009. He served for 37 years in the military and police after he graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1976 with PNP Director-General Jesus Verzosa. He entered military and police service with the Philippine Constabulary, and later joined the police force as it was separated from the Armed Forces of the Philippines. Gatdula is a lawyer. He passed the bar examinations in 1984 after studying law at the University of the East. He also finished a masters degree in Public Administration and a doctorate in Peace and Security Administration. He also graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He took other law enforcement courses in the United States, Australia, Thailand, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom and Singapore. He was a deputy chief of the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force led by then police officer and now Senator Panfilo Lacson. His association with Lacson, a known Arroyo critic, was perceived by others to be the reason why his promotion from Senior Superintendent to Chief Superintendent took more than 10 years. - with a report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/metro-ma...ew-nbi-director |

Appointment well done ! Mr. Gatdula has all the qualities and qualification not to mention his work experience with the police and the military apart from being a member of the bar. Usually, and in the past, being a lawyer or a CPA plus years of experience in the NBI itself plus political influence can land you at the top sit of the NBI. Congratulations companero ! We belong to the same year of the bar. |

Camaraderie, young man. You have yet to know more about soldiers. We, war dogs, don't snitch on each other. That's taboo. |

Mr. Omaha, soldiers are the sentinels of peace not war dogs as you said, if you are a soldier or an ex-soldier and you described yourself as a war dog, one is safe to say, that you might be one of those rag-tag soldiers who are instead a menace to a peaceful institution and a liability to the country where you belong. |

The use of the phrase "war dogs" should not be stretched too far as if with a high note. I guess Mr. Omaha was trying to say"courageous soldiers". Let's give him a little leeway. |
