MANILA, Philippines – Nearly seven out of 10 Filipinos have expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Philippine National Police, a survey commissioned by the PNP showed.

The PNP released the results of the survey on Wednesday, a day after President Benigno Aquino III ordered PNP Director General Jesus Verzosa to put an end to extrajudicial killings in the country.

According to the poll, 70.72 percent of Filipinos were pleased with how policemen responded to issues concerning public safety.

This was slightly higher than the 69.52 percent approval rating that the PNP got during a similar survey in 2009.

The nationwide survey, conducted by Asia-Pacific Center for Research, was done immediately after the May 10 automated balloting.

A total of 4,440 respondents were asked about their perception of the PNP’s performance on national security, helpfulness, public relations, sincerity and reforms within the police organization.

The same survey showed that 70.31 percent of the respondents were pleased with Verzosa’s leadership.

What about if the survey entails honesty and integrity ? They should try to survey all jeepney drivers, taxi drivers, or operators and drivers of public transport, sidewalk vendors, and other avenues involving the day-to-day routine of the police throughout the country. I think the result might be very interesting.
