Possible but the Spike ER has a maximum range of 8000m or 8kms only - our boat has to be within that range for the missile to reach its intended target, now here's the problem: As theoretical captain of our Spike-armed boat, how will you maneuver your boat within 8km of the target ship without being detected?

Easy if your target is an unarmed merchant ship, but what if its a corvette equipped with OTH sensors and armed with AShM with a range of 80km and a 100mm gun with a range of 30km?

Use the same naval strategy and tactic that were used by the PT boats in WW2. I am also positive that if the Philippine Navy will use this missile technology that they will not use the ATGM as its primary weapon and will remain defensive - use the ATGM only when it is needed. The Philippine Navy will not be putting itself at war if they will be arming their ships with missiles... they will still be a patrol force... warning shots are given first using guns to alert intruding ships that they are crossing our border. The Oto Melara guns will still play the biggest part.

ww2 PT boat tactics wont work if you have short range weapons, current fast attack missile boats have missiles with equal or longer range with that of larger vessels.

Now who do you think will the Philippine Navy will be waging war with?

The Philippine Navy is not modernizing its fleet to match and attack foreign warships - they will still be an all-defensive patrol force. The need for missiles is to augment the naval guns that we have but the problem is the Philippine Navy cannot afford even the cheapest and most widely used anti-ship missiles.

My online research was to provide an alternative solution and it was proven by some foreign navies that anti-tank guided missiles can be used by the navy.

Illogical, you are advocating for a defensive posture for your proposed Spike-armed patrol force but you do not know the PNs potential enemies.

Offense or defense, you have to know your potential enemies and their capabilities against your own capabilities.

Who will be the Philippine Navy's potential enemies? That didn't answer my question.

Anyway... I am more inclined on the American Hellfire ATGM not the Israeli Spike-ER because it has a model specifically designed for navy use:

AGM-114N Hellfire II

* Target: Enclosures, ships, urban targets, air defense units
* Range: 8,000 m (8,749 yd)
* Guidance:
o Semi-active laser homing
* Warhead: Metal augmented charge (MAC) (Thermobaric)
* Weight: 48 kg (105 lb)
* Length: 163 cm (64 in)

Update about the Hellfire ATGM as an anti-ship weapon and foreign navies using it...

  Another anti-ship weapon is the versatile Hellfire laser-guided missile, which is now mounted on a tripod by the Norwegian military.

The primary missions of the B-model (or Bravo) are surface warfare and antisubmarine warfare, which it accomplishes through a complex system of sensors carried aboard the helicopter including a towed Magnetic Anomaly Detector (MAD) and air-launched sonobuoys. Other sensors include the APS-124 search radar, ALQ-142 ESM system and optional nose-mounted forward looking infrared (FLIR) turret. It carries the Mk-46, Mk-50, or Mk-54 torpedo, AGM-114 Hellfire missile, and a single cabin-door-mounted M60D or GAU-16 machine gun.

Kfir, potential enemies of the Philippines are China, Malaysia, Vietnam.

Those countries have warships armed with proper anti ship missiles.

Hellfire or Spike missiles will only be effective against small enemy ships.

and big trawlers from Taiwan which are heavily poaching the fish in our waters.

Let's buy one Hellfire and test it on one of these poachers, if the Taiwanese trawler sinks then we buy more. :armytwisted:

I see... thanks! Well will the Philippines be engaging those countries in a war any time soon? When will their warships be used against us? Using a missile like the ATGM can yes be very effective in catching up with armed poachers and pirates who uses faster boats than our patrol boats.
