Respect her. Kapatid yan. An officer and a lady. Air Force squadrons with flying assets are composed of mature and professional warriors, far from what movies depict as welcoming new faces as if they are fresh civilian recruits. New pilots are welcomed warmly as professional colleagues. Introduced casually to the rest of the squadron, oriented properly, guide them, so they all operate in a cohesive manner with no friction. As one fighting unit. Caring for each other is all you have out there. You bond over time up there. The voice on the helmet when she checks in as your number 2 formating on your wing over thunderstorms enroute to target, the face who smiles entering the briefing room, the game room saying "mahjong", or the operations room with a DPOR form. She is your colleague, and you might find yourself glad she is. Its been more than a decade since women were accepted in the PMA. A woman in a Nomex suite is not new anymore. You learn to trust and rely on their abilities. Sexist jokes are not only tasteless but is also not tolerated. I have not heard of a female squadron commander of a flying unit yet. Do not address her as ate or tita. The same with female flight instructors, unless you want her to introduce you to the gust lock of a T-41. Be mature, be a professional. If you outrank her, address her on a first name basis. Not adeng, or Iha. Its the Air Force not your living room. Doh... But what if you fall in love with her? Pusang alaws. Sa dami dami ng babae sa kasama mo sa pakikipagpdigma at patayan ka pa na hulog? Bueno. Pwede naman. The AFP does not care about your love life. But it must be sincere, you know the drill, and no PDA. The policy on having relationships between male and female officers are contained in a manual. Sorry.. there is no app for that. Kaya pala laging wala sa TOQ hating gabi...at nilalakasan pa yun aircon sabay alis. Nak ng baka. What if the couple have a marital spout? O away away tapos bati na naman. Yan ang sinasabi eh. Romances in the work place is a bad idea. Not cool. Affects squadron readiness. Mang ligaw ka ng mayaman na Fil-Am. Wag mo na pakialaman mga lady pilots sa paligid bahala silang dumiskarte sa sarili nila hindi na bata mga yan. What happens if.."it happens"? Anong "it happens"? Nag karoon ng affair and isang kapitan na meron asawa sa isang 24 year old na babaeng tiniente? That is a serious violation in the Air Force and is not a laughing matter. There will be justice. |

The message was generic and contained no malice to anyone. But it is safe to say that I have witnessed personally the wake of military officers with more than one wife present. It was civilized and sort of they shared one husband. I did not go there at the chappel to judge but to extend my sympathies to the family I knew. Ang Pag-Ibig nga naman... |
