Wrong. The AFP still has some air defence capability in the form of 40mm AA guns operated by the Philippine Marine Corps:

Philippine Marines' 40mm AA guns thread

Furthermore, the PAF"s S211s can theoretically be used for air defence, though they will obviously more effective at intercepting hijacked civilian aircraft rather than going toe-to-toe with air incursions by neighbouring countries' MRFs.

Of course not. These AA guns will be more effective against slower aircraft such as helicopters.

in short, when Chinese Mig-29s come knocking on our airspace, we're supposed to just wave at them from our Jet trainers and OV-10s? and eject gracefully before the AA-11 missile obliterates the tailpipe? :lollol:

The 40mm AA guns are not for external defense my friends, if you get the drift.

Ufd21,

Correction.

The Chinese have Su27s (they call them J11s) and their homemade J10s, not MiG29s.

Of the Philippines' neighbours, only Malaysia has MiG29s, though they are phasing them out, IIRC. And the Royal Malaysian Air Force has F18s as well as Su30s.

More details about other potential adversaries for the RP are posted at the China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia threads of the World Military News and Issues section.

Hope that PAF will tap the technical expertise of our Universities to further improve its capability on AirDefense.... like coming up with a Radar-guided Fire Control systems for either AA guns or Missle platform...

Also should come up with a ECM jamming systems too...

Agree. Explore the possibility of developing a lowcost equivalent to Norway's Advanced Surface to Air Missile System :

Quote:

Norway developed this system in the early 1990s and deployed the first missiles and radars in 1995. NASAMS uses the American AMRAMM radar guided air-to-air missiles, but fired from a six missile container, instead of an aircraft. This ground based AMRAAM weighs 159 kg/350 pounds and has a range of 30 kilometers (it's radar can see out 50-70 kilometers), and can hit targets as high as 21 kilometers (65,000 feet).
