my younger sister observed that many of the real cadets acting as extras in this telenobela are short, I told her that the minimum height for male cadets is 5'4". she retorted that its too short, she said officers should be taller to look more authoritative and imposing and besides, being 5'7" , she can't imagine dating a shorter PMA cadet. what do you think sirs, should the minimum height be raised to 5'6" ? btw, what's the height of Gen. Yano, there's a picture of him with a Singaporean defense official and he looked very short? |

this one...![]() Philippines defence chief visits Singapore [Photo: GEN Yano (left) calling on Mr Teo (right)] The Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, General (GEN) Alexander Yano, called on Minister for Defence Teo Chee Hean at the Ministry of Defence Thursday morning. He is the 38th Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the highest position in the AFP hierarchy. GEN Yano, who is in Singapore for a three-day introductory visit from February 4 to 6, also called on Chief of Defence Force, Lieutenant-General Desmond Kuek. He will visit the Army's Headquarters Training and Doctrine on February 6. GEN Yano's visit underscores the warm and friendly defence ties between Singapore and the Philippines. The Singapore Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of the Philippines interact regularly through courses and other professional exchanges. |
![]() The SAF is an armed force , not a civilian corporation. Its mission is to defeat its enemies, ruthlessly and completely. Its an instrument of controlled fury, designed to visit death and destruction of its foes...soldiers must have steel in their souls ..must learn in war to kill and not to flinch, to destroy and not to feel pity, to be a flaming sword in the righteous cause of national survival. -BG Lee , 1984 | |

I'd rather be Gen. Yano than Gen. Dolorfino in a battlefield where the cover is sparse.

tall soldiers are good for ceremonial guard duty, short soldiers are good for combat duty.

the set piece battle between the cadets out on a field exercise and a band of bad guys was badly done. Looked more like a fun game of airsoft newbies. |

Did you know that a member of class 1983 belonged to a prominent family in one of Manila's districts? His family owned a pharmacy and they have apartments that are being rented out long before he entered tha PMA? He is now a full-colonel in the army. Did you know that a member of class 1962 was already a college graduate when he entered the academy? Retired as a one-star in the early 90's. I think our problem is stereo-typing the academy gradutes that they should be from poor families and once they enter the service, seems that they are not allowed to own properties such as a car or a house. Those who chose the profession of arms are also humans, they have concerns as civilians do, like how to feed their families, send their kids to school and probably enjoy little comfort in life, yet when they acheived it, they are perceived as corrupt, give them a break! No one is denying that there are indeed rotten apples, and yet there is a silent majority who still practice the Academy's motto. Let me cite an example, if we see a colonel driving a brand new Toyota Altis, we are already forming conclusion that he is corrupt, we tend to forget that he is already serving 20+ years in the armed forces, probably has some savings since he was a 2LT and has access to different government institutions, hence, he could afford to buy a new car. Yes, try researching how academy gradutes lived their lives. |
