18 new SF260 aircrafts for the AirForce? Thats quite a number for just training our pilots. What are their plans for those 18 SF260s? I suggest if they assign 4 units for Training and the 14 units for COIN Counter Insurgency missions.

RP to acquire 52 trainer aircraft

Agence France-Presse
First Posted 04:19pm (Mla time) 10/01/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- The Philippine government is to buy 18 new and 34 second-hand training aircraft, military officials said Monday.

Major General Pedro Insierto, head of a military modernization board, said they had just completed the bidding for the new Italian-made SF 260 aircraft.

He said the second-hand T41s will be bought at a "very, very cheap price as trainer aircraft," adding that this was a special favor from South Korea.

Air force spokesman Epifanio Panzo said the 18 SF 260 Marchetti aircraft would arrive this year but he could not say when the US-made T41s would arrive.

The aircraft will be strictly used for training and are not intended for combat, he said, adding that the cost of the deal had not yet been revealed.

The Philippine military is one of the most poorly equipped in the region. There have been growing fears that more of its pilots would leave the service to go to airlines because they no longer have enough planes to fly.

I HOPE THE 52 T-41s ARE TO BE USED FOR TRAINING WHILE THE 18 SF-260 ARE TO BE USED FOR COIN/CAS... THIS MAY ADD A BIG BOOST FOR OUR SOLDIERS ON THE GROUND THAT REALY NEEDS AIR SUPPORT DURING THEIR BATTLES WITH THE JI/MILF/AS/NPA...

52 planes for the PAF. 18 NEW marchettis and 34 2NDHAND aircraft in all. with the 15 T41's,what will be the other 14 2nd hands aircraft to be procured be?i hope it will be a good 2nd hand platform for COIN this time. I prefer a COIN attack aircraft turbo-prop to replace the OV10's. Maybe the T34 perhaps?i bet it would be a good atack aircraft inspite of its age. the ROK just retired theres when the T50 came out, any possibility of getting a squad of them? :fire: i think so, they gave out the T41's, i hoipe the T34's are next.amen! :armycheers:

Oops1 i meant the A37 Dragonflys, not the t38 mentors.got confused by them. The korean dragonflies where once part of the korean iarforce acrobatics team, and were replaced last year by the new A50 golden eagle. The mentors are simply too old to be modern trainers, but the A37 still is one hell ofan attack aircraft, with mini gunpods and a jet at that, its more silent than the noisy bronco and acn carry a hevay payload equivalent to its own weight, really a very good and capable aircraft to get.

getting 14 of these will add up to the 8 broncos remainig,it may be old viet era but its a jet with capability on all CAS/COIN missions.i would rather get these dragonflies cheap, than an expensive prop for attack role. lets reve our other funds instead to ensure for our LIFT and MRF requirement on the near future of the CUP2 program.meanwhile,we could ask these dragonflies to supplement our layangs and broncos :fire:

Philippine have enough trainer, all their aircraft are trainer aircraft. The money they spend buying those could got them 4 F-16A fighter plane that can at least intercept and provide air defense it's territory. We are not in world war II anymore. If you really buying a trainer for a jet fighter get yourself a bae hawk or TA-50 jet trainer aircraft.

Those ex-Korean T41 Mescaleros are all phase-out and replaced by Ilyushin Il-103 aircraft from Russian as a Starter pilot training.

Korean Air Force adapted a new Training programme for its Force.

a. Ilyushin Il-103
b. KT-1 Wongbee
c. T-50 GoldenEagle
d. A50 LIFT
e. KF16
f. F15K Slam Eagle.

So they are phasing out those T41 now and F5Es by 2011.

Thank you so Much South Korea! In behalf of Filipino-Canadians I express my gratitude to the benevolence that you bestowed on us Filipinos. Forever shall I strive to fortify capitalist theory and Korean globalization (advertising for their products abroad) through my humble way of ipromoting pro-capitalist, pro-South Korean democracy through my poetry. We remain indebted to you, South Korea.
