Its of course smaller than any LST, The LCU is the next smaller sized variant. Next will be the LCM. tHe WW2 LST's are the larget assets we have, next is the LSV Besson Class. The largest would be an LPD, of which reportedly the PN is eyeing an immediate procurement insertion through the current CUP program. The LCU will be for tansport on shorter routes of ports, the LST is used interisland long routes. The BRP Benguet that i saw last June at the port of Ormoc is now on its way again to zamboanga for supplies. Tons of amunition and 22 APC's are among the cargo of goodies. :fire:

at a bidding start of 4 million dollars(189 million pesos), this LCU is just a bare bones LCU. one of the cebu shipbuilders is a bidder. if my memory is right the LCU will has a minimum length of 45 meters yata. Dont be surprised though if the winning bidder will come up with an innovative unique design that is still cheap departing from the traditional US navy LCU style.

The LCU project bid opening has been postponed once again this time to October 16, 2008. Just check the DND site. :lollol: :lollol:

I hope they keep postponing it many more times so we can win the Guiness book of records for most number of bid postponements. :lollol:

or else, do a direct negotiated procurement after 3 failed tries. Thats the Procurement Law.There are many capable local shipbuilders that the PN can go directly. We have Aboitiz-Tsuneishi here in Cebu, We have Hanjin in Subic, and a local company in Cavite :fire:
