The US is equipping five to 10 radar sites in each of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines to help track ships. The US feeds intelligence to several nations to nudge them into sharing their own information with neighbors. The first Global Hawk unmanned surveillance plane is scheduled to arrive in Guam, the expanding island base in the central Pacific, in 2009; a key mission will be reconnaissance over the South China Sea.

the radars you mentioned will be essentially be in mindanao as part of coast watch south . one will be in cagayan de sulu, one will be in the southern tip of palawan , one will be in tawi-tawi. all 3 will be facing Sabah and surrounding areas for you know what :nono: . The other stations will be along the southern mindanao coastline. The purpose of this radar network is to help interdict arms smuggling via volvo penta kumpits and other speedboats and constrict/cut supplies to the rebels.

in addition to those, the US Drug agency is putting up at least 2 radar coast watch stations : one in southern mindanao(i think general santos or nearby), the other one will be in northern luzon( in aparri or nearby)

My question is will they be able to network them into one C3 unit.

These HF base radios will be used for the coast watch radar stations. HF are long distance radios. hope that helps partially answer your question

US to fund RP border security

WASHINGTON has agreed to provide $15.5 million to help the Philippines guard its southern maritime borders against pirates, smugglers and Muslim militants, documents showed.

According to a Philippine military report seen by Reuters, the US Department of Defense will fund a navy plan to acquire and install a network of high-frequency radio communications equipment for the southern region of the archipelago.

The Sulu and the Celebes seas, which separate the Philippines from Malaysia and Indonesia, contain busy shipping lanes and fishing areas but are also infested by pirate gangs and Muslim radicals.

There is a mention of Norwich in the book; Imperial Grunts.

To get back on the topic. Would these radars be really capable of picking up pirate dingies or ship that they have already hijacked? However, if the later is the case, could help stop large scale smuggling into the country.

Let me expand on the above. Merchant vessel enters RP waters. Filipino radar operators mark and designate ID Code for that vessel. Once that vessel reaches the port of destination, the ID Code can be used as a receipt number for the Coast Guard or Customs to process for inspection and place as record in a computer data base. Not only will Flip authorities have records of where that ship went, but who processed it as well. The information can be easily be made public for government watchers.

Thinking out of the box. Remember, there are more thn one way to eat a mango.
